It’s January 2. A new year. A fresh start. I’m so excited! I know that it’s just a turn of the calendar page and nothing more, but I feel very optimistic about 2014 and everything it will {hopefully} bring. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m turning thirrrrty in just a few months. A big year indeed.
Did you have a fun New Year’s Eve? Kristien and I went to a friend’s party, which was (oddly enough) a Czech Republic-themed party. Fun fact: The Czech Republic turned 21 years old on New Year’s Day.
There were homemade piegories and Czech beer, as well as frequent Czech puns (“Czech it out!â€) Good times. BFF Nicole and I spent the party drinking cheap red wine from Trader Joe’s and eating a ridiculous amount of peanut butter cups while karaoking Miley Cyrus’ greatest hits (which I’ll admit is a short list). This means that it was my perfect version of a party.
My other friend Heather and I split a babysitter, so our kiddos had their very first sleepover. Henry was super excited to have someone to play with up until bedtime and in the morning. He wants a sibling, stat. Mirabelle is his favorite kid (he calls her Nema) and they willingly give each other hugs and kisses. They’re only five days apart, so they’ve been attached at the hip since birth!
Once our friends headed home, Kristien and I spent New Year’s Day soaking up the last gasp of the holidays and taking down decorations. I’m always so sad to see the décor go , and my house always looks so bare without the tree, garland, and lights.
But less Christmas stuff means more room for organization! Today is actually the first day for The January Cure (and yes, I’ll be writing a recap!). The first task is simple… all I have to do is walk around my house and make a list of things to do. Easy enough.
(I still love my DIY Mirror Frame, by the way!)
And I’m so happy to report that today is a REST DAY. I’m totally beat! Half Marathon training has been going well, but I’ve been doing too many back-to-back-to-back days. My leggies need a break!
I’ve ran 30 miles in the last 12 days or so… a lot for me, at least recently. I’ve been using The Stick non-stop, which is definitely helping things. But nothing replaces a great rest day.
Alright – gotta jet! I’m sure a lot of you are doing exactly what I did this morning, which was wake up and think, “OMG I have so much work to catch up on!†Yup. Yup, we do. Better hop to it.
Thought of the Day:
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.†― Neil Gaiman
Those kiddos look too cute together! Happy New Year!
