Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope your day is filled with peace and happiness.

I’m sure no one saw this coming (hah!), but… I caught Henry’s stomach flu.  And then Kristien started to feel under the weather, too.  A whole house full of sick.  There was nothing left to do but reschedule our holiday meal.  Our guests will arrive tomorrow instead of today.

Much better to be safe than sorry, though.   I don’t want to pass it to anyone else.  The buck stops here!

I had the worst of it on Tuesday night, which interfered with my ability to do all the Thanksgiving meal prep work (and cleaning!).  Fortunately, our grocery store makes awesome pie…

And my family is helping me pick up the food slack.

Mom + Dwight –

Turkey and dressing

Sweet potatoes

Baked apples

Dad –

Crescent rolls

Wine

So I’m thinking that Kristien and I will add in a salad, grilled asparagus, tofu, and rice.  I’m going to make homemade orange-cranberry relish, too – if I can peel myself off the couch during Henry’s nap.  Anyone have any recipe recommendations?

Well, that’s all I can muster.  I wish I was feeling 100% – I’d love to be joining the rest of you in Turkey Trotting and feasting!  Even though we aren’t eating our big Thanksgiving meal, I’m still taking pause to be thankful for all the wonderful things in our lives… including Breaking Bad on Netflix. Smile

Did you run a Turkery Trot this morning?  How far did you go?

Oh no! 🙁 Hope your family feels better soon!! Christian and I ran a 10k turkey trot this morning in 20 degree Bozeman weather. Worth it to spend time with my husband-to-be though 🙂 Enjoy your day with your family! <3

  • Sara @ LovingOnTheRun November 28, 2013, 1:14 pm

No running a turkey trot but when to the gym to get in my workout before the feast tonight! Its snowing here so a turkey trot would have been interesting!

  • Rachel November 28, 2013, 1:17 pm

Happy, happy Thanksgiving– glad you’re taking care of yourself and your guests by postponing until tomorrow.

I ran 5 snowy miles this morning in Marshfield, Wisconsin– free pumpkin pie at the finish line, worth every mile!

My parents were from Marshfield! Do you live there?

  • Lesley November 28, 2013, 1:18 pm

Yup, 6 miles! Now ready to eat, eat, eat! Happy Thanksgiving and glad you are feeling better 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you all feel better asap!
I did a 5k Turkey Trot this morning which was awesome! I finished in 27:57 which is only 30 seconds shy of my PR and the fastest I’ve run since finishing my ½ marathon in October.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon!
No turkey trot today but instantly wish I would have signed up for one when I went outside and saw how lovely the weather is!

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope all of you feel better soon!

    Aw, feel better!
My sister ended up with strep throat yesterday (got a shot and meds) and is still a little under the weather today, but my parents still went to visit her.

I had lunch with my grandma today. She didn’t make turkey, but meatballs worked! I kinda missed having stuffing for T-day, but oh well. 😛
I visited a friend in the hospital today after lunch. She’s been in since Saturday with pneumonia. 🙁 She should be able to go home tomorrow (yay!), but her family is bringing Thanksgiving dinner to her tonight. Her husband is making the turkey and stuff, so hopefully it all turns out because it’s his first time taking care of it! It should be fine, though. 🙂

My dad did a 5K this morning, and even though he ran a little slower than he wanted to (about 23min), he still managed to take third in his age group! Maybe I need to get him another medal holder for Christmas. The first one I bought him is full, and he’s got probably at least one more worth of medals…

So sorry to hear of you and your family’s stomach flu. I’m quite under the weather myself, I came down with a sinus infection overnight. I’m hoping for a speedy recovery for everyone!

  • Laura November 28, 2013, 7:04 pm

Ugh that is a bummer! I ran a 3 mile turkey trot of my own around our neighborhood with the dog. Perfectly peaceful run before all the food!

  • Debbie from White Bear Lake November 28, 2013, 8:07 pm

    We had Trader Joe’s cranberry-orange relish…fabulous!!

I usually run my hometown’s 5 mile Turkey Trot but had a rough year health-wise so I walked the 2-mile Trot. It was cold (18F, snow, wind…) but it was nice to spend the time with my mom and get outside. Hope you all are feeling better soon! My sick niece hung out on me all day so I’m expecting to get sick eventually…

For the cranberries, I always rinse them, pick out any bad ones, put them in a pot with a little bit of water, bring to boil. They will start to pop (you can help any that don’t by mashing on them with a potato masher, for example). Add in some sweetener to taste – coconut palm syrup or sugar, agave, honey, whatever you like – then start adding orange peel zest – looks nice when long and curly, but just grated will do. Keep tasting until it is both sweet and orange-y enough for your tastes. You can also add some orange juice in for extra flavor. If you add too much liquid, just keep cooking them a bit. If too dry, add more water. As the mixture cools, it will thicken up a good bit.

I went swimming this morning. 🙂 We had a very low-key thanksgiving because we celebrated last weekend. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Rach November 29, 2013, 2:48 am

Happy thanksgiving guys. Hope you’re family are feeling much better soon 🙂

  • Ksenija @ With An Open Mind November 29, 2013, 2:57 am

Stomach flu on Thanksgiving is really no fun. I hope you still kind of enjoyed the time of being together and remembering what we are thankful for.

  • Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope November 29, 2013, 5:22 am

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving despite not feeling so well and get better ASAP! 🙂 Your staircase looks gorgeous with the decorations!!

  • Regina November 29, 2013, 6:31 am

Sending quick get well wishes your way! We ran a 5 mile turkey trot yesterday morning. It was my first pregnant race and I surprisingly came in 3rd place for all pregnant runners (but don’t be fooled, I’m far from fast but was very impressed with my time of 53:12 and loved the feeling of accomplishment with our newest baby boy (our son is 2 months younger than Henry and im currently 19w pregnant with our second son)). Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

  • Linz @ Itz Linz November 29, 2013, 11:39 am

Feel better! I’m just getting over a nasty cold – never fun, but especially during a holiday week! Sending you well wishes!

  • Nikki November 29, 2013, 1:35 pm

We are doing thanksgiving again today. We really wanted leftovers, plus the 15lb turkey was only $6 (and those pies were buy one get one free!). Have a fun delayed holiday 🙂

  • Niki November 29, 2013, 3:14 pm

Not feeling well for holidays is the worst! I hope you and your family all start to feel better before your Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Bobbie November 29, 2013, 5:43 pm

Happy Thanksgiving to the Boyle Family! I’m so sorry you all are not feeling well! Boo! We had a puker Thanksgiving morning too 🙁 (my middle daughter)
    Feel better soon.

  • Trudy November 29, 2013, 6:24 pm

Sorry you were sick on thanksgiving! Being sick on a holiday is the worst. Hope no one else in the fam gets it.

Oh and I am jealous you will be having grilled asparagus! It is one of my faces and where I live is only in season during spring/early summer. Wish it was available in the fall like where you live!

  • Keri November 30, 2013, 1:27 pm

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you are feeling better. Also, if you found a good cranberry orange relish recipe, I’d love to see it. I meant to, but got overwhelmed with the rest of the dinner & bought Whole Foods version instead. No turkey trot this year–haven’t been able to run during this pregnancy. Maybe next year with our baby!
