Everyone is feeling better!  Thanks, in part, to this concoction:

In the blender:

Equal parts orange juice and apple juice

Whole ginger

Whole garlic

Frozen blueberries

Raw spinach

Tastes as disgusting as you would imagine. Winking smile  Ew, garlic.

This made up for it:

I love tempeh, but it’s definitely one of those things that if you cook it ‘wrong,’ it’s akin to a garlic smoothie.  You know what I mean?

My secret?  Slice into thin triangles, and then place the triangles in a hot pan with a little bit of oil (I used coconut).  Brown on both sides, and then, at the very end, add a bunch of balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing.  Give it another minute or so on medium high.  It will glaze onto the tempeh and kind of congeal in the pan.  Perfection.

I think I can even manage a run… We’ll see.   Wait.  Nevermind!  I just found out the local Charlotte news wants to do a story on the new Operation Beautiful book (it comes out in 6 days!), so I’ve got to hightail it to the studio!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I’m glad you’re feeling better. I woke up this morning with a bit of a cold…trying anything and everything to get rid of it before Christmas Eve! I have too much holiday spirit to be down and out right now.

Wow, I bet that knocks your socks off! Do the garlic and ginger get pretty well chopped up in the blender?

I need more smoothies in my life.

If you get tired of balsamic tempeh, Heidi’s recipe for Orange Pan-glazed Tempeh is incredible.

That smoothie doesn’t sound tasty at all! Glad you’re starting to feel better!

That tempeh sounds great- definitely will try it in the near future

I’m one of those weirdos who think tempeh is good no matter how you cook it – even raw. Tofu, on the other hand…cooked wrong, it’s terrible!

I definitely scrunched up my nose to your smoothie concoction… Glad to hear it’s working though! Thanks for the tip on the tempeh too. I’ve really been wanting to try it, but have no idea how to cook it. This is a good start!

Haha that smoothie sounds like it would have been great, just without the garlic!

Congrats. I said, “oh, great, they’re feeling better” when I saw your post. Then I had to laugh when I read the ingredients for the smoothie.

Oooh congrats on the Operation Beautiful coverage Caitlin! That’s so exciting! On the tempeh front, call me crazy, but I love it – even on its own, sliced off the block. Of course, marinated is delicious too. Yours sounds great, and I’m going to try your trick for cooking it!

I always hear such amazing things about garlic. But…I just can’t… I like garlic and all, but not in a smoothie or on its own. But I’m glad you’re all healthy again!

  • Sara @ fitcupcaker December 21, 2012, 9:49 pm

hmm garlic, yea I dont know about that, I love green smoothies though!

  • Rachel December 22, 2012, 12:33 am

I read those smoothie ingredients & was all, “yes, yes, NOOOO!” How did you choke that down?? I’m all for garlic in my cooking, but raw in a smoothie? Blech. All in the name of health, I suppose! When I was sick the other week, I took a bath with Epsom salts & it did wonders! Supposedly it helps pull toxins from your body.

Fill us in on the OB story! So cool 🙂
