Noooooo!

in All Posts

I have a feeling this meal will stretch out over many, many days.

Our friends Sara and Kevin brought over an incredible ‘baby meal’ – tempeh tacos.  They brought over everything required for banging tacos – tempeh filling, lettuce, black bean and corn salsa, salsa, tomatoes, cheese, and guacamole.  It was really thoughtful and sweet (they even brought over their own dishes so we didn’t have to clean up!).

We had tacos before settling in to watch the England match.

The men drank cider and beer, but the ladies stuck to tea.  Channeling my inner Brit.

Unfortunately, if you’re following the Euro Cup at all, you’ll know how our afternoon ended… in a penalty shoot out against Italy that we lost.  We were all very sad.  Picture everyone screaming, “Noooooo!” in slow motion and pounding their fists melodramatically into the couch.  However, us England fans are used to being disappointed.  I hate to say that… but it’s true.  In recent years, we’ve blown all our big chances.  Now we’ve got to wait two more years ‘til the World Cup for our next opportunity.

So – guess what we had for dinner?  Yup.  Tempeh taco leftovers.

I added brown rice and made it into a naked burrito of sorts.  Just as tasty the second time around.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening!

Ahhh I’m so sorry England lost! But that tea set up looks pretty impressive!

  • Saima June 24, 2012, 9:00 pm

yeah, England’s been very disappointing in recent years. They have all these star players but mayhap not enough drive to win it. The coach has got to go. Such obvious strategic mistakes. blerghhh…

Hodgson has only been in charge a couple of months, give him a chance! He got the team further than anyone expected.

  • Scargosun June 24, 2012, 9:23 pm

Yes, very disappointing afternoon. We did a similar thing; watched with friends at our house then had dinner outside. Well, Italy will now be beaten by Germany. 🙂 I foresee a Germany Spain final.

    • Julia June 25, 2012, 6:18 am

Yep, me too!!!! Just like in 2008. But this time around, Spain won’t take home the cup. Our German boys are too strong! 🙂

What a nice day…minus the not so great ending to your game…but tempeh tacos more than make up for it in my mind!

  • Sana June 24, 2012, 10:01 pm

🙁 I hope your husband is not too upset!

  • Presley (run pretty) June 24, 2012, 10:08 pm

yum.. that was one crazy match wasn’t it?
That is a cool tea kettle

  • Dominique June 24, 2012, 10:33 pm

My dad and bro are huge England football fans. I’m kinda glad I’m not home anymore because anytime an important match is on, all I hear is constant yelling at the TV. Sean found it extremely hilarious the first time he saw my dad watching a match. I am sad that I’m missing out since we don’t currently have cable. We opted not to get it when we first moved in and I have moments where I really miss it but so far it’s been okay. I think I might cave and get it for the summer Olympics though.

Have you found any foods that bother Henry? I eat a lot of beans, but I had to cut them out completely because they gave my daughter gas, which made her cry. A lot. 🙂

      We’ll see about that!! 😉

  • Army Amy* June 24, 2012, 11:18 pm

Watching your team lose is no fun. I am a Cowboy’s fan so I know that feeling well.*

  • Amanda June 24, 2012, 11:44 pm

I thought of you and Kristien while watching the game today and was rooting for England!!

  • Jennifer June 25, 2012, 12:22 am

I guess that’s what you get for cooking Italian yesterday! 😉 Just kidding!

  • Amanda June 25, 2012, 1:07 am

The tacos look delicious, and the tea tray is so cute! Nice touch with the tea pot 🙂

  • Lena June 25, 2012, 2:48 am

I’m following the Europe Cup (I’m German), and have to say I’m a little anxious for the Italy vs. Germany game that’s now going to happen (after England lost). It’s just that there is SO much tension in soccer between Italy and Germany, it’s going to be really really uncomfortable (although I do not doubt Germany will win hehe). For what it’s worth, I cheered for England yesterday and would’ve preferred them to be in the semi finals over Italy any day. 🙂

  • Sam @ Fit for My Fork June 25, 2012, 3:45 am

I don’t follow the football but I would, of course, have liked England to win. I remember a headline a couple of weeks ago that said ‘England fans expecting… not much’ or something like that. Right on the front page of one of the big newspapers. Sounds like no one had any faith in them from the beginning, which can’t really be a confidence boost for the team!

  • Willemijn @ Run Eat Travel June 25, 2012, 7:57 am

Sorry to say, but I’m so happy Italy won! Ever since the Dutch are out, I’m screaming for Italy because I work for an Italian company and I have Italian friends.
Because of the penalties I didn’t went to bed until 23:30… Oye…

  • jen June 25, 2012, 9:12 am

    Caitlin or Sara!

Can we PLEASE get the recipe for that delicious meal? Specifically the tempeh part and the black beans? Everything looks so so delicious and I need to cook once for a lot of days. I would be so grateful if you could post or email me the recipes please 🙂

    • Sara June 25, 2012, 10:03 am

hey jen! the black bean salad is so good. it’s one of my favorite things to make when i want to make a lot of one thing and have it last awhile. here’s the recipe: http://vivacatalina.com/2011/05/30/something-like-summer/

that said, my husband actually did all the cooking for this. for the tempeh, kevin just used a seasoning packet from Frontera (http://www.fronterafiesta.com/store/seasoning-sauces/27.html). i’m not sure what flavor we used though! maybe chipotle garlic? he then sauteed it all in a pan with olive oil, diced tomato and onion. it’s pretty simple!

      • jen June 25, 2012, 1:24 pm

wow thank you SO much for responding so quickly! it WOULD be super helpful to know the flavor of the seasoning packet, lol… could you just let me know whenever you get the chance? i’d really appreciate it. thanks again 🙂

  • Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See June 25, 2012, 11:35 am

Oh my, I just had a burrito yesterday, but now I’m craving tacos! That looks amazing. does she have a recipe?

  • Soniathe Mexigarian June 25, 2012, 12:03 pm

Was watching the game with my Papa and bro and asked who they were rooting for, and Dad said “England, but it’s not going to happen” lol. I was thinking of you while watching it. So sad. Rooting for the Germans now. 🙂

  • Jeanelle @ Glocal Girl June 25, 2012, 1:19 pm

I’m living in the Netherlands at the moment and my Dutchie BF was disappointed a loooong time ago. Props to England making it this far! You always have the World Cup 🙂

  • Amber K June 25, 2012, 2:23 pm

Wow do those tacos look good. What great friends!

  • Aby June 26, 2012, 9:44 am

You don’t have to wait until next year! Euro 2013 is just a year away, and the women’s team is awesome! You can watch many of the England players compete in the Olympics with Team GB although we’re up against some tougher competition there so we might not do so well.

Many of the England women’s games will be streamed online for the Euros, I imagine. We’ve got some top class players, especially now that Kelly Smith is back from injury.

Plus it’s great to get behind women’s sports so we can help grow the game. I prefer it to men’s football because there’s no diving, no one gets into fights or whines to the ref when things don’t go their way. They just get on and play!
