Gone Missing

in All Posts

During a move, things inevitability get misplaced.  I really don’t understand how this happens because, in theory, you go from full house –> van –> empty house –> new house –> empty van. But we’ve been searching frantically for two missing boxes ever since we arrived.

One was my purple box.  I moaned and groaned when I realized it was missing – in the purple box were all my nice dresses and pre-pregnancy jeans.  Not the worst box to lose, but certainly an expensive box to ultimately replace.  I searched everywhere but couldn’t find it.  I even called my old landlord to ask if he’d double check out attic – no dice.  And then, tonight, I stumbled upon it!  It was hiding under a pile of cardboard boxes to recycle in the garage.  So it was never truly lost.

Maggie blur.

One thing that really is missing is the Husband’s tie collection.  Yup.  All his ties… vanished.  We know we put them in a suitcase, but we’ve opened every suitcase, and they are nowhere to be found.  And let me tell you – he loves ties (he wears a tie every day).

One thing NOT missing today – my appetite.

Rice cakes, PB, and banana times two while working.

The Husband was on cooking duty tonight.  He made his favorite – tempeh sandwiches.  Plus pear, potatoes, and pickles (P’s times three!).

One odd third trimester symptom that I’m currently experiencing is middle-of-the-night hunger.  I wake up around 4 or 5 AM positively famished, no matter how I ate the day before.  The only solution seems to be having a snack before bed and keeping a little tray of almonds on my nightstand – I end up munching on them in the dark.  So, that being said, I’m off to snack and read.

Heck, maybe I’ll find those ties jammed behind a bookshelf…

What a mystery! I hope you find the ties. That’s really good you discovered your purple box. Moves are so stressful! Haha, I love the image of snacking on almonds in the middle of the night – very healthy midnight snack 🙂

For about 6 months after we moved into our house, we joked there was a black hole somewhere. Things kept randomly disappearing! Everything eventually reappeared, thankfully. Hope you find the ties back soon!

It’s probably all located in the same place the missing socks go.

Last time I moved I tried to be super duper organized and detailed where each box needed to be put and what exactly was in it. But somehow I still spent hours looking for things!

I swear boxes during a move are like socks in the washer – sometimes they just vanish…but to where?!

  • Mildly Entertained April 2, 2012, 10:28 pm

    Yum!

What are you working on now that you have your books completed?

    • CaitlinHTP April 3, 2012, 9:33 am

Oh, odds and ends. Freelance work, book promotions, Naked Face stuff, working about 40 hours at the clinic. Getting ready for bebe.

Aw, I hope the ties turn up (I hate moving!) Maybe Maggie and James made a tie nest somewhere? 🙂

I am not pregnant but have been having the same problem! I currently have a big bag of dried apricots on my nightstand 🙂

Good luck finding the ties, I’m sure you will! And those potatoes look sooo good!

    Poor Husband 🙁

  • Christine @ BookishlyB April 2, 2012, 11:17 pm

Oh, you’ll find them eventually- after he goes out a buys a few replacements. I hate losing things- so frustrating. Even worse when someones asks “where did you have it last?” Umm… if I knew I’d look.

When I move in a May, I’m looking forward to actually finding some things. My current apartment is CRAMPED and I know there are some things lurking in corners and under baskets that have gone missing. I KNOW they are in the apartment and I’m looking forward to rediscovering them!

Moving tests patience. I think you’re doing great! And those PB cups look so good right now.

I hate it when things go missing in a move! When we moved most recently we were told by the moving company that two of our boxes were missing. But when we inventoried we couldn’t find any missing boxes. And we never noticed any missing items, so who knows if we were ever truly missing them!

    • CaitlinHTP April 3, 2012, 9:34 am

Hahah that’s funny. We all own so much junk, there are plenty of boxes that I wouldn’t have cried over losing. But the tie box…

Love your animal print bump in your precious post. Cute shirt! I experienced the same middle of night hunger when I hit 30 weeks. I would munch on dry cereal around 4am every morning. I am 35 weeks now and I can now make it through the night w/ no snack. We both are almost there!

I am thoroughly convinced that there are house gnomes who steal things and then replace them months/years later. Case in point: my very first pink ipod mini and my favorite pair of jeans that I turned my house upside down looking for not once, not twice, but three times and THEN found them about 7 months later. I am sure the gnomes will bring the ties back. I’m not crazy, my mother had me tested (that last part is a quip from the Big Bang Theory but I’ll stop here)

  • Molly @ RDexposed April 3, 2012, 8:01 am

Maybe Maggie made a doggie bed with the ties. Or a fort! Ties would make a nice canopy covering.

Losing things while moving is the worst! I bet this stuff goes to the same place all the hair-ties amd drier socks go 😉 We lost a reusable bag of kitchen gadgets (can opener, peeler, wine opener etc.) and I can’t for the life of me think of what might have happened. Moving from California was the worst though, I misplaced a lot.

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed April 3, 2012, 9:28 am

I hate when things seem to disappear, and moving is the worst! I had my favorite cardigan go missing for months and then my boyfriend found it behind his couch, I was so excited haha.

I hate when I lose things during a move. It’s funny b/c it always seems to be clothes!

  • Jess April 3, 2012, 11:20 am

“It’s a dude thing” I just died laughing! My boyfriend always says “nothing” and I can NEVER think about…nothing. Oh to have that wonderful calming talent!

Hi Caitlin — how does Kristien make those yummy looking potatoes?? I have tried so many times to make nice-looking, somewhat crispy potatoes but they never turn out right me. 🙁

P.S. I’ve been eating TJ’s dark chocolate almonds, but I HAVE to try the peanut butter cups.

  • Helene@healthyfrenchie April 3, 2012, 12:38 pm

I hate moving for that very reason! In our last move our cell phone went missing (yes, I shared one with my man at the time…)
We looked for it everywhere – of course the battery was dead so we couldn’t get it to ring- and I found it a week later.
In a plastic bag where I put all my tampons and stuff! The Scotsman was not happy haha
I’m sure the ties will turn up sooner or later 🙂

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey April 3, 2012, 12:59 pm

Okay I lose things going from the dryer to the laundry basket, so I totally get it.

  • Amber K April 3, 2012, 2:48 pm

That would be so frustrating! I have never lost anything in a move, I usually have the opposite happen. “Hey, there’s that thing I thought I lost years ago, it was in the back of this drawer!”
