Midnight in the Garden

in All Posts

Last night, I weeded the garden in the dark.  It was cold and pitch black outside and yet I still felt like weeding.  I feel the need… the need to weed!

Weeding in the dark equals a messy job, indeed.  Gotta touch it up later.

I have a dream of someday growing my own vegetables in my backyard, but I really don’t know if that’s ever going to happen considering my black thumb.

Breakfast is served.

I’m definitely on an eggs and toast kick.  It’s just such a satisfying start to the morning.

Off to maximize my Saturday.

Song of the Day:

Nothing for Granted

Stop the seasons, drifting by. Stop believing there’s no time.

Stop your heart from closing off; I think you deserve it all.

Love your future, love your past, love your body, it’s all you have.

Love your secrets, bottled up; but love them more when you give them up.

Haha maybe the weeding is a nesting thing?

    • Amber K February 11, 2012, 1:18 pm

That was exactly my first thought! Heehee 🙂

I always thought that about myself and gardening. Then a master gardener gave me a really good tip. Just put the plants in the ground. You will be surprised how well they can mostly take care of themselves. I did that and grew an ok garden. And I am definitely not committed enough to weed in the middle of the night so you are already ahead 🙂

This doesn’t apply to me. Seriously. I suck at gardening 🙁

Hope you have a great Saturday! Just wanted to pop in and ask how your neighbor is doing. We haven’t heard much about her and her family recently, so just thought I’d ask.

Hope you and the husband get some time to relax today!

She’s doing okay. She’s not getting any treatments from the tumor though – not much they can do. It’s not growing though. They took her off her anti-seizure medication so she’s feeling a LOT better (those meds screwed her up big time).

      Thanks for asking!

I really love having a vegetable garden – it’s not too hard! Just a little time consuming at first!

LOVE all songs Brendan James. I actually discovered him a year or two ago because you & Kath were talking about him – now I can’t get enough! 😀

I saw this recipe the other day and thought of you, since it’s simple and healthy and involves an egg:

    Yum!

    • Jill February 11, 2012, 10:11 am

Oh no! I just read another comment, you’re allergic to avocado?? That sucks!

      • CaitlinHTP February 11, 2012, 5:26 pm

        That still looks really good!

By far my favorite Brendan James song! 🙂 I love to blast it while I am baking or cleaning.

I love Brendan James, and that is one of my favourite songs (tied with The Lucky Ones). You always make eggs and toast look good Caitlin!

    • Pauline February 11, 2012, 10:55 am

I also can’t decide between The Lucky Ones and Nothing For Granted for my favorite Brendan James song. Have had his album on repeat for the last two weeks 🙂

I would like to grow my own vegetables, but it looks like a lot of work. I don’t think I have the patience for it.*

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 11, 2012, 1:37 pm

You’re awesome for even attempting it! I TOO have a black thumb…..my pooor eventual children 😉 heh

  • Anon February 11, 2012, 1:38 pm

Do you think its weird to have a similar meal to that but include yogurt and avocado and stuff? I wonder if I’m weird by having yogurt alongside things all the time.

Our garden in Nigeria used to have a mango tree and I gotta say, it was very convenient to be able to grab one off almost anytime 🙂

  • Jordan February 11, 2012, 1:58 pm

  • Laura @ She Eats Well February 11, 2012, 2:00 pm

I can’t believe you weeded in the garden that late; too freaking funny!

  • Katie February 11, 2012, 2:06 pm

I’ve been on an eggs for dinner kick…and I’ve never been one to like eggs. I must be low on protein. Gotta kick it up! 🙂

  • Melissa Rose February 11, 2012, 2:35 pm

hmmm…the egg looks yummy. Enjoying the food and accompanied by that lovely song. What a wonderful life…….

  • Molly @ RDexposed February 11, 2012, 3:27 pm

I’ve started craving eggs on toast with your recent breakfasts!

  • Shelley February 11, 2012, 6:14 pm

Hey Caitlin! I too have a black thumb! I seriously can not grow anything other than weeds- those i have no problem growing :). Anyway i was just wondering all the gluten free type breads looks so tiny, how big would you say 1 slice is?

    • CaitlinHTP February 11, 2012, 6:22 pm

4.5 inches across? they are tiny.

  • Kath February 11, 2012, 8:36 pm

    Brendannnnnnnn <3

All those weeds you pulled out of your garden looks like chickweed. Chickweed is edible and very nutritious. Bonus: growing wild in your garden, it is also totally organic. (Did I mention locally grown? lol.)

Get a square foot garden. No weeding and it is supper easy. Go the the website and check it out. zucchini and carrots anybody can grow. I have eggplant that I have neglected and it keeps producing. All it asks for is a tad bit of water. There is nothing more enjoyable than watching kids around a garden, especially city kids.

Caitlin, I’m not that great at growing things either however for the past few years I have grown a small garden Maybe 10X12 I picked easy veggies to grow cucumbers, 3 types of peppers, Tomatoes, Romain Strawberrys. The greenhouse helped me at first to start with easy to maintain items…It was nice to go in my yard & pick things have fun!
