Wine + Hummus

in All Posts

(You know, instead of wine + cheese?)

If you’re looking for a vegan alternative to cheese sauce on top, try hummus.  Seriously!  I’ve found the white bean-based hummuses (hummi?) works the best.

This pasta dish was very easy to make and fast, too.  And it got two thumbs up for the Husband!

In the mix:

  • Whole wheat spaghetti
  • Creamy white bean and basil hummus
  • Fresh basil, shredded
  • Steamed kale
  • Cherry tomatoes

So, somehow my work afternoon devolved to this:

If you didn’t already know, not only does wine cure writer’s block, but it also reduces knee pain.  ;)  It’s a miracle!

Half a raspberry bar, too.  I split it with the Husband.

    hummi…!!!
    🙂 haha love it.
I also once heard someone mispronouce it like hyoo-muhs that cracked me up as well

    • Hats @ See How She Runs April 8, 2011, 4:26 pm

I hate it when people pronounce it hyoo-mus, like the soil! I don’t eat soil. I eat tasty, tasty HUM-MUS 😀

  • Julie (A Case of the Runs) April 8, 2011, 1:35 pm

“Hummi” ha ha… sounds better than “hummuses.”

  • Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food April 8, 2011, 1:41 pm

ohhh a big yum for the raspberry bar!

    so crumbly and delicious! 🙂

  • Rae April 8, 2011, 1:48 pm

Cheers to wine reducing knee pain! Just do me a favor and dont test out your theory on the roads after a few glasses, mmm kay? 😀

    • Caitlin April 8, 2011, 1:54 pm

That would probably increase general body and property damage pain.

      • Rae April 9, 2011, 8:58 am

I did mean running on the roads, I hope you know 🙂 But yes, definitely would increase body damage! Feel better soon!!

        • Caitlin April 9, 2011, 10:22 am

          hahahah both work.

  • Lauren C. @ FocusedToBeFit April 8, 2011, 1:48 pm

Oh man, I could use some of that right now! Looks so good! Have a good weekend. 🙂

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday April 8, 2011, 2:01 pm

Sounds good, but can you really call it hummus if it’s not made with chickpeas? Otherwise it’s just bean dip.

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun April 8, 2011, 2:01 pm

That white bean and basil hummus is my favorite. Never thought to use it as the “sauce” for a pasta though. Great idea!

  • Freya April 8, 2011, 2:02 pm

I am forever wondering the plural of things like hummus..I like hummi, i think that should be official!

  • Marisa April 8, 2011, 2:05 pm

You have to try New Age over ice with a healthy squeeze of lime. It’s summer in a glass.

    • Mellissa April 8, 2011, 2:46 pm

That sounds amazing! I have a bottle of this at home right now 🙂 I may try that tonight.

    • Caitlin April 9, 2011, 10:23 am

The bar nicknamed it “cougar crack” Fun fact.

  • Emily G. April 8, 2011, 2:08 pm

Oh, I love New Age. That was the first wine I started drinking (bc it was sweeter than most) and I just can’t let go of it! I have about 3 bottles at the house! 🙂

And I’ll have to try the hummus/pasta combo. I have some roasted red pepper hummus and I bet it would be delicious!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels April 8, 2011, 2:17 pm

I LOVE humus on pasta – so gooooood

yeah what is the plural of hummus?

And further more do you think beer would reduce the tendonitis-like pain in my arm like said wine and knee pain 😉 hahaha

  • Erin April 8, 2011, 2:21 pm

I have a question for you about bare minerals. What kind did you get (matte?)? Did you get the starter kit? Also, does it cover breakouts? Does it cause breakouts? Thanks! =D

    • Caitlin April 9, 2011, 10:25 am

I got the original starter kit and yes – it does! you use the smaller concealer brush with the foundation to cover up blemishes – and I wouldn’t use anyting that caused me to break out ever!

      • Erin April 9, 2011, 12:08 pm

        Thank you!!

  • Lauren @ LaDolcePita April 8, 2011, 2:23 pm

Did you use the Trader Joe’s white bean hummus? Because that stuff is so good it makes me weep. Ain’t nothin wrong with some afternoon white wine!! 🙂

I love New Age! Kind of fizzy, right? I am a big champagne fan, so anything with bubbles I love! Also, a great dessert is sparkling wine with berries in it, like raspberries, gooseberries, and whatever else you might like. Very summery!

  • Brenda@Year25 April 8, 2011, 8:58 pm

Hummus seems like a great alternative. I’ve never heated hummus though, so I wonder: How does it do on left overs? Does it taste funky heated up?

    • Caitlin April 9, 2011, 10:31 am

I have never had leftovers to speak of 😉 I think it would reheat fine though
