I had a really nice 27th birthday. Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes! :) It was really appreciated.
I woke up and unwrapped some presents. The Husband got me a Kindle e-book reader, which I am so excited about. Of course, I love ‘real’ books but I also think the Kindle will be great for travel. I’ll do a full review down the road!
The Husband made me breakfast, and then we went shopping (I never made it to the pool, oh well…). I couldn’t find a single thing to buy at the mall, but the Husband sure did! :) I shopped vicariously through him until I checked out an upscale consignment shop and practically stole a pair of designer jeans. Oh yea!
DadHTP came over and made cupcakes, as he does every year. This was a trick candle, and I couldn’t get it to blow out! Not sure if that means my wish won’t come true…
Then, it was time for Girls on the Run. I was so excited to have practice on my birthday because nothing makes you feel like a real birthday girl the way kids can. I walked into the room and 15 eight to ten year old girls went hysterical, screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I LOVE YOU!!! YAYYYY!!!â€
Yesterday’s lesson was our Community Service Project. Our original plan was to host a bake sale for animals orphaned by the Japan disaster but I couldn’t get permission from the school in time due to the Easter holiday. Instead, we used GOTR lessons to make seven informational posters for the other kids in the school.
I created a list of topics based on the curriculum + Operation Beautiful (which we talk about a lot)!. The girls were split into pairs and assigned to their topic randomly. We had them do a rough draft of the poster on a sheet of paper before moving onto the poster. I think they really liked having creative control over their posters! It was fun.
After that excitement, we had to go to the DMV to get our car registration renewed. You know you’re a procrastinator when you look at your registration on your birthday and realize in a panic that it expires at midnight… Yah. Sucks.
1.5 hours later…
It was time for my birthday party! The Husband organized a big party at Kennedy’s, a really fun Irish pub that does trivia night. We had a huge private room.
Hilary ensued.
Birthday Cake shots for the table – these are really yummy!
I ordered the Fried Goat Cheese spinach salad and a hummus appetizer for my dinner. Kennedy’s has pretty impressive bar food! Nice to have interesting vegetarian options, too.
And for dessert, Jen brought cupcakes from Cupcrazed. There were vegan vanilla and regular strawberry cream cheese. Amazing. Seriously.
The best part of the evening? Kennedy’s identifies customers at a large table by writing identifiers at the top of the bill. Katie from Sweet Tater was “Curly,†Kelly was “Flower Dress,†I was “Bday Girl,†and Jen’s husband was “That Other Guy.â€
See – Curly!
Bawhaha.
All in all – a very FULL birthday and a very FUN birthday. Thanks again to everyone in real life and on the intrawebs who made it so special to me! Regular blogging shall now resume. 🙂
Your party was a SMASHING time! I wondered what that shot I did was! Birthday cake actually makes sense now that I think about it. I was thinking it was a pineapple upside down cake shot! Hope you guys did well at trivia!
