Poor Knee

Unfortunately, yesterday’s 12.0-miler tweaked something in my knee. :(  It felt fine throughout the run, but the moment I stopped moving, it began to ache whenever I bent my knee.    My knee issues (and solutions) are well-documented on the blog; however, this is not my ‘typical’ knee pain – it hurts on the outer, [...]

Up to Play

Good morning. :) I was up early so I could get some work done before other errands.  I’m seeing my Girls on the Run in their school play at 8 AM and then I have a meeting.  I had to laugh when I asked the girls what roles they each held – one is the [...]

A Rainy Spring Afternoon

Oh my, oh my – what a funny debate earlier about race shirts!  It makes me laugh how seriously we take things like race shirts.  :)   Want more serious-but-not-so-serious debates?    Can I Re-Wear Workout Clothes?  More Than Three Times?! Oh, Controversy:  The Great PETA Debate The Sleeping Nekkid Debate The Dog Poop Debate [...]

The Race Shirt Debate

Thank goodness for running hats – I’m not sure if I would’ve survived today’s 12 miler.  It POURED the ENTIRE time (literally).  That’s 1:58:35 of being soaked to the bone.  :) However, the rain wasn’t so bad.  It was a good distraction, and the miles just seemed to fly by.  I’m getting hopeful that I’ll [...]

Travel Round

I woke up this morning to drizzling rain, which was rather disappointing because I’m doing a 12-miler later this morning.  Don’t get me wrong – I love to run in the rain when I’ve got the right gear – but 12 soggy miles doesn’t sound super appealing. Hopefully, it will lighten up even more because [...]

Baked Pickles (Oh Yes, I Did!)

Fried pickle lovers everywhere, rejoice.  This is a healthier, homemade version of my favorite greasy bar food.  And they are AMAZING – try them with ranch dressing or ketchup! Now, don’t get me wrong – baked pickles are not a ‘heath food’ – just healthier than fried pickles. :)   I healthed-up my favorite salty [...]

One Year Ago Day…

It is dreary out there today! It seems other people hate memos and love fried pickles as much as I do!  :)  A reader named Mary pointed out that you can make Baked Pickles, which I think I’ll need to tackle very, very soon.   I woke up with a tummy ache (I’m going to [...]

Fried Pickle Swap

Last night was pretty fun for a Tuesday. :) The Husband worked an evening shift at the clinic.  While secretary-ing, I ate this yogurt mess: Raw oatmeal, sunflower seeds, a banana, and Greek yogurt.  Perfectly portable.   I ended up breaking our minimize-eating-out-as-much-as-possible rule. :(  We just felt too tired after work and the idea [...]

Win-Win

I am in the shower.  I look down at my arm and notice this strange, pale triangle in the crook of my arm.  I dip my head closer to inspect. “Hmmm,” I wonder.  “How the heck did I get that weird tan line on my arm?”   Then I realize – it’s from running so [...]

Day 2 of Boot Camp, done! Today’s Boot Camp actually seemed a lot easier than Day 1 because I knew the moves and what modifications I needed to do.  My muscles feel stronger already! :)   The Husband did Boot Camp with Nicole and I.  He regularly strength trains and said it was challenging, but [...]

Oatmeal Freckles

Morning. :) You know what makes a bowl of oatmeal truly special? Oatmeal freckles! Alright, they aren’t freckles, but that’s what I’ll tell my kids. ;)  I actually added a bit of vanilla bean to my oatmeal this morning, and the result was fantastic.   You can find whole vanilla bean in the spice section [...]

Italian Feast

It was a lovely afternoon in Charlotte today!  It was chilly out, but perfect weather out for a lovely 4.0 miler. Tonight’s dinner was amazing… We had a delicious Italian feast.  Earth Fare sells frozen bulk mushroom ravioli, and it’s just to die for.  With grilled zuchinni, sweet marinara sauce (canned), and buttahed herb bread. [...]

Positive Feedback

Want to know something awesome about healthy living?  The more you do it, the easier it becomes.  It’s kind of a positive feedback cycle.  You decide you want to be healthier, so you begin to make a few small changes, and you feel awesome due to those changes, which makes it easier to stick with [...]

Singing Your Praises

Remember the unlikely story of how Peter Hollens from NBC’s reality hit The Sing Off  and I became social media buddies?  You can read the funny story here.   Peter just put together an AMAZING Operation Beautiful-inspired cover of the new Lady Gaga hit.   EVERY noise in this song is made by Peter’s mouth and [...]
