A 5K and a Back Flip

in All Posts

My exercise for today included a 2.0 mile walk with the puppies and the Husband, as well as a lovely 5K run along the intracoastal waterway.

This trail is actually one of my favorite paths in the entire world.  I love looking at the water, running through the sawgrass forest, and checking out the lovely homes.

I finished the 5K in 30:34, averaging a little slower than my normal pace because it was super hot out – which inspired a post for tomorrow called Running in Hot Weather (stay tuned!).  I took an untimed break underneath a tree because it was absolutely sweltering out.  It’s definitely SUMMER in Florida!

When I came home, I jumped in the pool.  It felt SO good and cold against my hot, hot skin!  This is the single reason why I want a pool… I would back-flip in after every workout!

Before my run, I had a bowl of strawberries.

After my run, my mother-in-law (who is British like the Husband) served up afternoon tea and scones.

I had a cinnamon raisin scone with buttah.

And two chocolate cookies (the chocolate melts in the tea and tastes sooo delicious).  The Europeans do it RIGHT.

Tonight was the Husband’s REAL birthday dinner (doesn’t it seem like his birthday has been stretching on for days!).  My mother-in-law made a veggie Thai coconut curry with white rice.

I also had a glass of red wine.

And dessert was mint ice cream.  The Husband opted for leftover chocolate cake, but I just love mint ice cream!

Guess what we’re doing tomorrow?

I’ll give you a hint!

Are you going golfing!? I’ve always wanted to try but I’m chicken!

And jumping into a pool after a run is definitely one of the best things ever. My pool opens up Memorial Day weekend and I cannot WAIT to take advantage of that!

  • Sally May 8, 2010, 10:26 pm

TPC @ Sawgrass! I was there today! There are veggie options at the food court behind the 17th (cheese pizza, but still) Have a blast, Phil Mickelson is #1!

    • Caitlin May 8, 2010, 10:27 pm

Thank you!!! Last year’s options were so horrible for vegetarians.

  • Jenny May 8, 2010, 10:29 pm

I love Petit Ecoliers, or however you spell them! Europeans definetly know how to eat well!

  • Anna May 8, 2010, 10:29 pm

When I run at home in the summer I usually just run straight off the end of the dock into the pond afterwards! (but i kick my sneakers off first). So effing good. Sweet action shot, by the way.

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) May 8, 2010, 10:30 pm

I love those cookies. The Dark chocolate are the best.

  • Shannon, Tropical Eats May 8, 2010, 10:30 pm

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) May 8, 2010, 10:31 pm

oh my goodness if y’all are playing golf i might soil myself. ok, that’s not true and a bit dramatic, but i will be so jealous if that’s the case! love your backflip by the way 🙂

  • Julie @ Pickley Pear May 8, 2010, 10:38 pm

  • Marissa May 8, 2010, 10:43 pm

I cannot wait until the weather is warm enough here to jump in the pool!!

  • Chris May 8, 2010, 10:46 pm

Love those Palm Coast trails for running and bike riding. While you’re there check out the pizza place in the European village, it’s beyond terrific. Hope you brought your bike, the A1A routes by bike are great also!

We discussed this today! Our neighborhood clubhouse/pool is a street over and one our way home form our 6 mile run we passed the pool and my husband was saying he wished we had brought the pool key so we could jump in!

  • John May 8, 2010, 10:50 pm

So jealous! Someday would love to go watch Sawgrass. Enjoy!

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? May 8, 2010, 10:52 pm

Oh to have a pool… I have to say though, i just love that you ran somewhere called an “esplanade”. I simply love that word!

  • Jenn (eating bender) May 8, 2010, 10:58 pm

I love the picture of you doing a back flip. Sounds like you’re having a wonderful time. Happy birthday to the Husband – I love May birthdays!

  • Wei-Wei May 8, 2010, 11:05 pm

That picture of you doing the backflip is BADASS! 😀

I can’t wait for tomorrow’s post. I’m really worried about slacking off on running during the summer because of the heat.

  • Mary May 8, 2010, 11:41 pm

I love golf!!! I’m kind of scared for marathon training in the NC heat this summer… yikes!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter May 8, 2010, 11:49 pm

Wow, I would absolutely kill for your husband’s birthday experience. That would be the perfect dinner in my book 🙂

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) May 8, 2010, 11:53 pm

    That pool looks beautiful!!!

And those strawberries are pretty perfect 🙂

  • Krista N May 8, 2010, 11:58 pm

Have fun!!!! We live in Sawgrass and will be at TPC. Maybe I’ll see ya 🙂

  • Diana @ frontyardfoodie May 9, 2010, 12:04 am

Firstly I’d LOVE super hot weather, secondly I’d LOVE a pool if the weather was super hot.

I would like afternoon tea every day. hehe

  • Kim May 9, 2010, 12:04 am

Looking forward to the hot weather running post – I ran a 5k this morning on I-Drive and it was SO FREAKING HOT outside! The first mile I blazed since it was mostly in the shade, but the last 2 were direct sun all the way, and it added 30 seconds to my time! Plus they only had one hydration station along the course.

I had just gotten used to running in the afternoons after work, but now it’s still hot at 5pm here, so I end up having to run even later (sooo not a morning person!) or indoors on the treadmill.

What shorts are you wearing in your backflip picture? They’re cute!

    • Caitlin May 9, 2010, 9:17 am

      they are lululemon!

  • Camille May 9, 2010, 1:03 am

    Looks like a fun day!

  • Pam C May 9, 2010, 1:05 am

So jealous of those strawberries! My favorite fruit (my family used to grow them) But New England is still getting the crappy ones shipped in, can’t wait for the warm air to drift on up here!

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs May 9, 2010, 2:57 am

Lol I think your mother-in-law is the first british person I’ve heard of who actually does do scones and tea in the afternoon!! Love it 🙂

  • M May 9, 2010, 7:07 am

I can’t wait for your hot weather post. I ran a marathon last weekend, and it got to be nearly 90 degrees. It was HORRIBLE. I barely finished, but with a lot of sweat and tears (and dry heaves), I got to the finish line a good 45 minutes late.

  • Nicole of Raspberry Stethoscope May 9, 2010, 7:17 am

Looking forward to the post on running in the hot weather since I am doing the couch to 5k right now…in Florida…and ugh, hotness.
PS: I love those cookies!! sometimes, we make late night stops just for those!!

  • Marie-Sophie May 9, 2010, 7:26 am

    Hey Caitlin,
I don’t know whether you’ve already come across the “17 and baking”-blog but I had to think of you when I checked on Elissa’s baking news … she has a chocolate mint ice-cream cake and I had to think of you 🙂 :

I just watched happy gilmore this morning and it made me think about golf… I feel like it is something I could NEVER be good at but I am so curious! Love reading your posts about this. Sometime I will try when I get the courage to make it past the mini golf course 🙂

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers May 9, 2010, 7:59 am

That looks like an awesome place to run. Haha I love the picture of you midair!

What an awesome picture of you flipping back into the pool! All your eats today looked delish! I would love to have your in-laws cook for me. 🙂

  • Susan @ Journey for Health May 9, 2010, 2:46 pm

As a self-professed tea lover, I am in love with the scones and tea picture. I make scones, but I’ve never had cinnamon. And those chocolate tea biscuits are sooo good.

  • Jaclyn May 10, 2010, 1:50 am

Love all the Indian food, what fun!

  • Amanda @ Cakes and Ale May 10, 2010, 9:49 pm

Oh… scones! I love really good scones. They have to be kind of hard on the outside, but soft and pillowy within… topped with lemon curd is my favorite!

  • Keely May 17, 2010, 12:04 am

    Loving the Czech china!
