Next Saturday, I’m doing a 15-mile trail race with a bunch of bloggy friends. Today’s long run was the last trail run I’ll be able to fit in before the big day!
Last year, we did the race at a fun, casual pace. We want to keep the atmosphere relaxed again this year – but we also want to beat our 2:56 time. If today is any indication, that shouldn’t be too hard!
I met up with Kelly and Sara in lovely Moss Park.
I was happy to see they both looked very enthusiastic about the run. To be honest, I wasn’t really feeling it at first. Having two upbeat ladies to run and chat with definitely helped.
The run started off well, but then I stepped in a GIANT puddle around Mile 2.0 and completely soaked my sneakers… all the way down to the socks. I took my socks off and ran with them on my hand for a little bit to try them out. I somehow managed to escape getting massive blisters – whew!
I think I need to start bringing a change of socks with me on trail runs, especially when it’s wet out. I always land myself in a puddle!
During the run, I ate all these Shot Bloks (about 200 calories):
We finished up 13.0 miles in 2:14 – an excellent time, especially for a muddy trail run! We were so thrilled. We’re definitely going to beat last year’s time! Everyone in the group is so much stronger than before, too.
My sneakers are destroyed (these are my old road shoes that I wear on the trails… I don’t have trail specific runs, but I don’t want to dirty up my nice sneakers):
Post-run, I raced home and ate some almond buttah straight from the jar. I probably had 2 tablespoons.
And then I made a delicious lunch FILLED with veggies.
I made a wrap with a mashed sweet potato, sprouts, and baked beans. I love the La Tortilla Soft Wraps brand.
Trust me – this combo works.
Plus, an entire bag of roasted parsnips and a bunch of Brussel sprouts.
I’ve got to clean the apartment! Angela and her hubby are arriving soon. I think it’s funny that I’m having a blogger stay with me and feel so comfortable with it – it’s like we know each other, even though we’ve never met! I hope she turns my kitchen into a Glo Bar bakery and makes me lots of delicious treats. 🙂
Stay tuned for the shenanigans!
Do you have a 13.1, 26.2, 70.3, or 140.6 (Half Marathon, Marathon, Half Ironman, and Ironman) bumper sticker on your car? Would you put one on if you complete one of those races? I had a 13.1 on my car for the longest time, and immediately covered it up with a 26.2 when I did a marathon (equally proud of both distances; I just don’t love lots of stickers). I would feel SO badass if I could put a 70.3 or 140.6 sticker on, too. 😉
Even though I have run half marathons and a few marathons, I don’t have a sticker on my car. I am sort of anti car sticker for myself, but I like seeing them on other cars. I do love buying the post marathon apparel though! And there is a lot of cute stuff this yr for Boston! 🙂
