Pets in Bed

in All Posts

I would very much like the work day to be over so I can go on a LONG RUN!  :)  I have decided I’m going to try to tackle a slightly longer distance tonight (6 or 7 miles?).  My foot feels great! We’ll see.

Lunch:

IMG_6258

The star of lunch was a hummus, artichoke, sundried tomato, and sprouts wrap:

IMG_6260

So delicious!  We’re almost out of canned artichokes… guess it’s time to go back to Costco and stock up.

Plus, Stacy’s Pita Chips and salsa:

IMG_6261

And an orange for ‘dessert’:

IMG_6262

I always feel the need to end a meal with something sweet.. fruit is a nice, healthy alternative.  🙂

By the way… James and Maggie say hello!

IMG_6266

IMG_6267

Since I have nothing health/fitness related to talk about right now, I’ll discuss the dogs.  :)   Maggie and James sleep in our queen-sized bed with us every night.  James normally sleeps in the Husband’s arms, and Maggie sleeps at the bottom of the bed.  But lately, Maggie has been crawling up to the top of the bed around 5 AM and snuggling into my arms like a stuffed Teddy Bear.  It’s so cute!  I love waking up with a snoozing dachshund in my arms.

Do you let your pets sleep in bed with you?  I know some people think it’s gross, but we really like it – and the dogs are really great snugglers.

Of our four cats, one sleeps on my husband’s chest, one sleeps between his knees and one sleeps at my feet. Good thing we have a king size bed!

  • megan January 28, 2010, 2:03 pm

I would love to have a pet sleep in bed with me, but my husband says that when we get a dog, it will have to sleep on the floor 🙁

do you care that your husband sleeps with James in his arms instead of you?? 🙂

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:04 pm

hahah NO! i hate to be touched when i sleep.

      • RhodeyGirl January 28, 2010, 2:14 pm

I am the same way, so PB and I either hold hands or touch feet. Random/awkward TMI?

        • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:15 pm

We touch feet, too! That’s the only thing the doesn’t bother me. LOL

      • Rachel January 28, 2010, 2:37 pm

LOL That’s too funny. I hate being touched when I sleep too! We actually usually sleep under different blankets. But, that may be more because I go to bed about 8 hours before my boyfriend does. We’re very rarely sleeping at the same time (he works midnights).

    • Caitlin in MD January 28, 2010, 3:12 pm

I hate being touched when I sleep too! My boyfriend takes it wayyy too personally. If it were up to him we’d spoon the entire night. That would drive me in.SANE.

      • megan January 28, 2010, 3:16 pm

so funny! We are cuddled up all night. 🙂

        • Carrie H January 28, 2010, 3:38 pm

Not to be weird, but I am glad to see so many people say they hate to be touched when they sleep too! I am the same way, and I think my husband is too, but once I saw an Oprah that said that couples that “cuddle” while they sleep are more likely to be successful. And my sister told me she and her bf cuddle … So I was feeling kinda like a weirdo! Lol, not like I thought this would lead to divorce for me and the hubs, just nice to see I’m not alone! 😉

        • Carrie H January 28, 2010, 3:41 pm

And also, we sleep with our cat (in my husband’s arms or at my feet) in bed. Our 60-lb golden retriever sleeps on a dog bed beside my husband’s side of the bed, but if it were up to me, he’d be in the bed too!

        • caitlin January 28, 2010, 3:42 pm

Carrie – I have also heard that couples who touch in bed are more likely to stay together (one of the argument I’ve heard for NOT getting a king sized bed) but i think it’s a crock of poop. I just like to sleep uninterrupted! I still love the husband. 🙂 I just don’t like death grips int the middle of the night.

    • Jessica @ Fit Chick Wannabe January 28, 2010, 6:12 pm

My fiance and I both like to cuddle…but not really when we sleep. Sometimes I snuggle up on him for like 10 minutes and then I get uncomfortable. We always have to be touching our hands and/or feet, too! I thought we were weird – I like seeing that all these other people do the same thing.

      • Kelly January 28, 2010, 8:31 pm

Um yeah- I totally agree with all of the above- I hate to be touched when I sleep and I LOVE my king sized bed. I barely even see my fiance when we sleep haha. I’ll cuddle during the day, not while I sleep. I seriously don’t understand how people find it comfortable, when someone falls asleep they get so much heavier so all of a sudden there is this ridiculous heavy arm on you ahhh! Just me though 🙂

  • Jessica @ How Sweet January 28, 2010, 2:04 pm

That is really cute, but I don’t know if I could do it. I worry about hair, slobber, etc. Can you tell I’m not an animal lover? 🙂

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance....after a 100+ Pound weight loss!!! January 28, 2010, 2:07 pm

Our Chi, Peanut, sleeps with my daughter every night!!!

It is the cutest thing……sometimes she will sleep on the pillow next to her with only her little head sticking out on the pillow from under the blankets. =)

  • Gina January 28, 2010, 2:08 pm

Yup, we let our dog sleep with us. She tries to push us out of the bed! It’s worth it during the winter though because she keeps the bed warm. 🙂

  • Emily January 28, 2010, 2:08 pm

LOL I’ve always said that my dog lets me sleep in his bed..he’s all of 5 pounds and always tends to get me to the very edge of the queen size bed! I wouldn’t have it any other way though!

  • Tonyne @ Unlikely Success Story January 28, 2010, 2:09 pm

Absolutely! We also have a Queen size bed and our Schanuzer, Chaser, sleeps with us everynight. A lot of times he falls asleep in between us on his back, paws in the air. 🙂 Of course, he’s our “child” and spoiled rotten.

  • BethT January 28, 2010, 2:10 pm

Does James stay in your hubby’s arms all night? I couldn’t get comfy that way!

I really didn’t want a dog in the bed with me, but our fesity terrier was a barker and our neighbors let us know that trying to let him bark it out in his crate was not cool for them. So he’s been on our bed, but we have a strict “stay at the foot of the bed” policy.

He’s also locked out during sexy time, which makes him very paranoid that he’s been banned from the pack.

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:11 pm

he stays it his arms about 1/2 the time but he also has a bed on the floor. he kind of drifts from the bed to the floor and back again all night.

  • Wendy January 28, 2010, 2:10 pm

I let my 17-lb, almost-12-year-old cat sleep in my bed every night, especially since it’s been cold. He usually sleeps by my feet, but once the alarm goes off, he’s in my face complaining that he’s hungry. He had to stay overnight one night at the vet’s a couple weeks ago, and I really missed him. 🙁

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:11 pm

aww that’s really cute. 🙂 a 12 year old kitty deserves to be in bed, i think!

      • Wendy January 28, 2010, 2:17 pm

I think so too. After all, he’s been in my life longer than my husband!

  • Carly January 28, 2010, 2:11 pm

Oh, yes! Bowser crawls under the covers, completely. He usually sleeps on his back in the middle of the bed, but sometimes he’ll crawl up right next to my face and we’ll spoon.

  • Courtney January 28, 2010, 2:11 pm

Um yeah…but we have a total of 100 lbs of dog. Which is like having a third person in bed with us! Funny thing is our big golden retriever curls up and our little border collie mix sprawls not to mention snores in my ear!!! Lol! Love my fur babies!

    • Sarah @ See Sarah Eat January 29, 2010, 2:57 pm

Doggie snores are hilarious! My little Beagle mix can really saw some logs 😉

  • Ashley (whole-ier) January 28, 2010, 2:12 pm

Funny you should ask, I have a big lab, so she has to sleep on the floor. But I was nice last night and decided to let her sleep in the bed- she was at my feet all night which made me unable to stretch my legs out! I didn’t want to disturb her so I slept in a ball. She’s one spoiled pup!

  • Molly @vegandorm January 28, 2010, 2:13 pm

My dog is a black lab- german shepherd- wolf mix, and I sleep at home on a twin-sized bed. And the answer is yes! I just feel so safe with her right there and she’s adoraaaable!

  • Jennifer @ His N' Her Health January 28, 2010, 2:13 pm

we let our dogs sleep with us in a queen bed too, but they are both about 70 pounds! one curls up at our feet and the other stretches out right in between me and my fiance. It doesn’t bother me because we aren’t big cuddlers when we are sleeping anyways. I just hate it when the doggies push me off the bed!

  • Ally January 28, 2010, 2:14 pm

Our pets totally sleep in bed with us. Our beagle sleeps on my feet and usually around 4:30 or so, our boxer will jump up and snuggle next to the beagle as well. Our cat used to sleep on my pillow (she did for 15 years!) but, she’s old and crazy at this point and started waking me up by biting me every few hours for food. This lasted all of two weeks and now she sleeps in the living room.

I’m pretty sure that our animals think they are human!

    • Sarah @ See Sarah Eat January 29, 2010, 2:58 pm

Aww, my beagle does the same thing. My husband wants to get a boxer someday so it’s good to hear of a beagle and boxer cuddling with each other 🙂

  • Laura Georgina January 28, 2010, 2:16 pm

I would LOVE it if my fox terrier slept in bed with me sometimes! But he’s really aloof about sleeping and only gets in bed with me when it gets cold (he also goes to his bed every night at eleven fifteen on the dot, regardless of what exciting fun might be going on in the house–such an old man). I’ve tried kindness and treats, all to no avail. Boo.

  • Scorpio Woman January 28, 2010, 2:18 pm

My cat sleeps on my pillow each night. I love to ear him snore. It relaxes me. But when my boyfriend snores, it’s not the same thing. I hate it lol

  • Casey @Spicy&Sweet January 28, 2010, 2:21 pm

My dog sleeps with me but he’s so BIG! Half the time, he lays right in the middle so my legs are squished over on one side with my foot hanging off the edge. I feel bad making him move so I just don’t. Haha. How big of a pushover am I?!

  • Alisha January 28, 2010, 2:22 pm

I don’t mind cuffling and maybe napping, but for end of the day sleep, I would prefer if my poodle Ben slept on the floor or his basket. He is sooooooo fluffy right now and makes Me sweat. Ben on the other is quite the sick hole. He will do anything to stay in the bed, including fake sleep and fake snore, Haha, so funny.

  • maria January 28, 2010, 2:23 pm

We have 2 dogs a 65lb lab/pit mix and a 12lb daushand they both sleep with us along with our 2 year old. Good think we have a king size bed.

  • nancy January 28, 2010, 2:25 pm

Oh yeah. We’ve usually got the dog and at least one cat in bed with us. If you’d asked me a couple of years ago I would have sworn that no animal would ever share sleep space with me. Now I have a very large siamese cat on top of me and a small dog next to me. The dog likes to snuggle up next to my husband and the cat likes to be ready to head-butt me when she decides it’s time for breakfast. We never let the kids get in bed with us but we welcome the animals. Not sure what that means.

  • Tina January 28, 2010, 2:25 pm

I was 100% against having Murph sleep in our bed, but now I can’t sleep without him. He’s so frickin’ cute!

  • brandi January 28, 2010, 2:26 pm

our new puppy is still sleeping in her kennel at night, but our cat usually sleeps with us. Most of the time, she sleeps right beside me or inbetween us, but (when she gets away with it) she LOVES to sleep ON my pillow, right above my head. It drives me crazy, but sometimes I never even wake up and notice until I’m getting up for the day.

are you running that crazy weekend with Meghann?!? 🙂

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:27 pm

Hells to the no. I think one marathon was enough for me, to be honest. 🙂

      • brandi January 28, 2010, 2:32 pm

ha, just wondering 🙂 I figured it would be a little crazy, but you never know!

Love the Maggie and James pics – we both have a “Maggie”!

  • Chloe (Naturally Frugal) January 28, 2010, 2:26 pm

What a delicious looking lunch! Do you find it’s easier to eat healthier at home as opposed to at an office setting?
I don’t have any pets, so we’ll have to see if they end up snoozing with us or not!

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:28 pm

I would say… yes and no.

I pretty much ate the exact same way when I worked in an office, I just had to pack everything the night before. I would bring two or three snacks and a lunch to work everyday (sometimes my breakfast, too). But my food was similar – its just a matter of planning and packing your meals in advance when you work at the office.

  • Nicole, MS, RD, LD January 28, 2010, 2:26 pm

    Looks good!

We don’t let Lily (our bulldog) sleep with us. She snores SO LOUD, and that’s no exaggeration. We’d never to any rest. She sleeps out in the hallway and we close our door and even through that her snoring keeps us from getting to sleep and staying asleep at times!

  • Sara @ ActiveGal January 28, 2010, 2:27 pm

My kitties sleep with me! Well one isn’t too much of a snuggler so he will sleep at the foot of the bed my other likes to crawl up under the covers and snuggle with me 🙂

  • Sarah D. January 28, 2010, 2:28 pm

That melted my heart. How cute is it that James sleeps in your hubby’s arms? I have a rather large 20lb cat who is my baby and he runs the place so he can sleep anywhere on my bed. I love snuggly animal babies.

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg January 28, 2010, 2:28 pm

Our two dogs used to sleep with us just fine, and I loved it– they are major snugglers! But then, out of nowhere, they both started trying to get us up earlier and earlier, until they were basically trying to drag us out of bed for breakfast at 3 am. Ummmm, NO thank you! Baxter (our little terrier) would literally jump on my head until I got up!

Now they sleep in the basement. Seriously.
(it’s not as bad as it sounds– they have lots of blankets and toys down there, so it’s kind of like their own little playroom 🙂

  • Dana January 28, 2010, 2:29 pm

We let our two cats sleep in bed with us. At first we didn’t, but then the A/C in our apartment died over the summer and the complex gave us a window unit. We had to keep the cats in the bedroom with us so they wouldn’t roast. Now they know when bedtime is and snuggle up with us.

  • katie davis January 28, 2010, 2:30 pm

We have two cats…one who kind of finds places she is comfortable throughout the night and the other who literally is glued to my husband at all times. He follows him wherever he goes and when it is time for bed he sleeps on the bed down by my feet because I sleep all curled up and he has more room there haha. But what’s even funnier is that he follows me down every morning and if I have yogurt for breakfast he waits patiently until I am done so he can lick the bowl clean and then will go back upstairs crawl in the bed next to my husband on my side of the bed :). Pets sure make the day brighter!

  • Jill January 28, 2010, 2:31 pm

Of course our kitty sleeps in the bed with my husband and me! We wouldn’t want it any other way. Our Quincy is 8 years old and starting to slow down so he no longer wakes us up early in the morning with kitten-like playing or pouncing. And you’d be surprised how much of a bed hog a little 9 pound cat can be.

  • Ali @ Food, Fitness, Fashion January 28, 2010, 2:32 pm

Oscar sleeps in my arms! We spoon, he puts his head on my pillow too and everything. I couldn’t imagine not sleeping with him, when I am away from home I miss snuggling with him so much!

  • Samantha January 28, 2010, 2:32 pm

I would love to have a dog period! We can’t afford/ don’t have room for one in our small apartment right now, but I will eventually get one. The only downfall….I grew up with our dog sleeping in beds, but my BF is allergic….he isn’t really down with taking Benedryl for the rest of his life…oh well!

  • Paige January 28, 2010, 2:32 pm

Our 109 pound Chocolate Lab sleeps on the floor. He has a downstairs pillow and an upstairs pillow. We used to just have one, but I got tired of lugging the pillow up and down the stairs! We don’t let him sleep with us, because he moves around (stretches a lot) while he’s asleep; and also, there would not be enough room in the bed for all three of us!

  • Jessie January 28, 2010, 2:33 pm

Our dogs sleeps with us sometimes now that we have a king sized bed. But she can be a bed hog and even make a big bed feel crowded!

  • Kristie January 28, 2010, 2:34 pm

I let my cat sleep in the bed – but she’s picky and only does maybe once a week, lol. She’s not the snuggley type though!

  • JLee January 28, 2010, 2:35 pm

Hey Caitlin! My super handsome Chow/retriever mix sleeps with me on the nights my boyfriend works. He tries to sleep with the both of us but usually gets frustrated that he can’t spread out and goes and sleeps on the couch. Most nights when he sleeps with me, we end up back to back and his head is on the pillow next to mine. It makes me so happy!!!

  • Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers January 28, 2010, 2:37 pm

oh little miss sadie gets the star treatment! she’s allowed to sleep in the bed A LOT, especially when it’s cold. we give her the boot sometimes though b/c she will get up and start cleaning herself at 4am or sniffing around which keeps us up. i agree w/ you about waking up w/ your dog in your arms… adorable! sadie & i have spooned together many times.

  • Sarah R January 28, 2010, 2:38 pm

We have two dogs–a 7 lb Maltese and a 70 lb lab. As much as I would love to snuggle with them, there just is not enough room for them in the bed with my husband and me. Shoot, there’s barely enough room for me!

  • Heather (The Single Dish) January 28, 2010, 2:38 pm

I don’t have any pets but if I did I don’t see myself allowing them to sleep in my bed. I am a very light sleeper and I wouldn’t want them to wake me up.

  • Jenny January 28, 2010, 2:39 pm

Sadly, I can’t have pets in my apartment, but when I go to visit my mom, the family dog, Tilly, is just a puppy- but she’s part Rhodesian, so she’s very big and very strong (she just hasn’t come to terms with that yet). She’s very active and tires pretty easily, so she’s always sleeping all over me, even when it’s not time for bed. Her favorite thing to do is curl up as my pillow. She will literally nudge herself under my head. It’s hysterical. She pretty much ignores my pleas to not put her butt in my face and if I try to move, she’ll get up, readjust or else walk on me until I oblige her. She’s quite the character. When I’m not there, she sleeps in my mom’s and step-dad’s bed. She’s terribly spoiled!

  • Kristine January 28, 2010, 2:39 pm

Yes my dogs sleep in the same bed as me whenever I go home. My dogs are australian shepherds, whom are known to be very clean. I don’t mind! 🙂

  • stacey January 28, 2010, 2:40 pm

Both of our dogs sleep in our bed. They are both about 15 lbs, so they are just little guys. I keep blankets on top of our comforter for them to lay on and I do not let them sleep directly on top of the sheet or pillows (although they keep trying). They stick close to me because my husband moves a lot at night. I love waking up with my dogs and it’s so fun to cuddle with them that I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning.

  • Kim January 28, 2010, 2:41 pm

We resisted the cats being in bed with us for a long time, but now I love it and can’t imagine it any other way. I don’t even mind when they sleep on my head, which they do.

That wrap looks great! I’m in a wrap phase right now…

  • Michaela January 28, 2010, 2:41 pm

At costco you should look for the giant jars of artichokes and sundried tomatoes (not canned). they’re awesome and will last you forever. I used to have a weiner dog and she would sleep under the covers right beside me. it was great. she would keep me warm all night long. cuddle on my friend!

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:42 pm

oh they are the giant jars! 🙂 we TOREEEEEEEEE through them.

  • Bethany January 28, 2010, 2:42 pm

One of my cats wants nothing to do with us when we sleep. The other one is a big snuggler. As my boyfriend and I fall asleep, I make him stay to the side of me, but once we fall asleep he wedges his way right between me and my boyfriend! It’s cute but sometimes annoying. Then in the morning, he takes over my entire pillow and I have to lay on my boyfriend’s.

  • Jessica January 28, 2010, 2:43 pm

I just adopted a rescue dog this past weekend! She’s an adult, but still needs to be trained. I can’t WAIT for her to be able to sleep with me 🙂 She already LOVES to snuggle and is sad when she has to go back to her crate.

Dogs are the best snugglers in the world!

Also, good luck on your run! I’ve been sick recently and had to cute back intensity, it feels so good getting back into longer runs and faster paces.

  • Laura January 28, 2010, 2:44 pm

There is no stopping our 2 cats now. We have tried to not have them with us and closed the door…if I go to check on them, they are usually just sitting there waiting to be let in anyway. One cat usually sleeps on my stomach, the other at the husband’s feet. They keep me warm and I love them so I am cool with it.

  • Bonnie January 28, 2010, 2:45 pm

I would love to have my doggy sleep with me, but my bed is tiny and my 60+ pound German Shepherd takes up pretty much the whole bed. :/

I hate to be touched too when I sleep, but that’s surprising that you can touch feet. That bothers me the most! Especially when people move their feet in their sleep and they’re touching my feet while they’re doing it. Gives me the heebie jeebies!

  • Paula January 28, 2010, 2:46 pm

I might have everyone beat, my husband and I let three of our four dogs sleep with us. Luckily, we’re both short and we have a king sized bed. When the fourth one graduates from his crate, though, that might put us over the limit.

Crazy dog people? You bet! 😉

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:54 pm

Do you have a house or an apartment? Do you think it was hard to get the 3rd dog? I really want another but I’m concerned about messing up our “balance”.

      • Sarah Jayne January 28, 2010, 9:14 pm

We had three dogs for a couple years; just lost our old man in the fall. But our dynamic is sooo off now. I miss having our third wheel. We had two big dogs (60-75 lbs) and one little guy (20 lbs). If you’re worried about the extra work a third would include I will totally vouch that it us NOT that much. If you & the husb can make 2 poochies happy, you will definitely be fine adding another 🙂

      • Paula January 29, 2010, 8:13 am

Caitlin, we live in a house, but it’s not big or anything. It’s funny, adding a second dog was a big adjustment, but the third was not at all. He fit right in and the harmony was still the same. A little more effort, just taking three dogs some place, vs two, but really not more work or problems.

Now the fourth? That was much more of an adjustment, but were fostering him for over three months and decided we just couldn’t let him go, so we’d make it work. 🙂

I think you and hubby would do just fine adding a third little buddy.

  • Graze With Me January 28, 2010, 2:49 pm

My husband & I have two cats, they’re sisters. We got them before we lived together so they are still “his” & “hers” somewhat. Mine goes back and forth cuddling with both of us at night and his cat likes to sneak into the bed after we’ve fallen asleep, sprawl across my pillow on top of my head and eat my hair! Little shithead….

  • Stacey January 28, 2010, 2:49 pm

Our dog is not allowed on any furniture (but the cat is) and he obeys. Whenever it’s (as one of your readers says) Sexy Time, the dog leaves the room and goes to another level of the house. It’s hilarious! If we’re in the bedroom, he’ll be downstairs in the living room. If we’re in the living room (we’re still newlywed’ish) he’ll be in his bed in the bedroom upstairs. It’s like the munchkins in Wizards of Oz afterwards, “Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are…”

  • Joey January 28, 2010, 2:50 pm

We let our lil beagle puppy sleep with us, which we swore we’d never do. But he is so snuggly & lovable that I just can’t say no! And now when we are away and can’t take him, I really miss my morning puppy snuggles! 😉

  • Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com January 28, 2010, 2:50 pm

I love having my cat sleep on my bed – she curls up right next to me, though before she actually sleeps, she purs reaaaally loudly and stands on me! I love it 🙂 animals in the bed are the best lol so comforting!

  • Juliene January 28, 2010, 2:50 pm

Love the puppies. We have a mini dachshund named Sophie(the breeder had named her Maggie as well) and she sleeps in bed with us in the crook of my leg or once I leave the bed she lays her whole body on or in my pillowcase. We have a new puppy at home too now but since he isn’t housebroken all the way yet he is stuck sleeping alone in his crate but he loves to cuddle on the couch across my neck.

  • Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle January 28, 2010, 2:53 pm

Good luck with the run, hope all goes well! I don’t have any pets now but I used to try and make my dalmatian sleep on my bed when I was younger. And there is no way in hell I would let my roommates cat sleep on my bed. That thing is a meanie!

  • Sarah @ Long Legs Healthy Life January 28, 2010, 2:54 pm

Since I don’t have pets I’ll say this: Don’t you love Stacey’s Pita Chips? Although they may not be, eating them feels a little more virtuous than eating regular chips.

Love the blog, and Operation Beautiful! You started a great thing! Thanks!

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 2:55 pm

I do love the chips, but they are like crack – soooo addicting.

      thank you for reading!

  • Gracie @ Girl Meets Health January 28, 2010, 2:54 pm

I don’t have pets anymore, but that’s definitely my #1 priority when I get a place of my own! And you can *best believe* those little buggers are going to sleep with me =) Your doggies are smallish and look so *clean.* I’m not sure I’d like having a dog bigger than me laying next to me in bed haha…or slobbering on me!

  • Krista January 28, 2010, 2:55 pm

Our dog Chloe sleeps with us every night- she alternates between snuggling with my husband and me. Aside from the fact that I’m constantly changing the sheets because she sheds SO MUCH, I wouldn’t have it any other way! She is the best little snuggler.

  • Natalie January 28, 2010, 2:56 pm

Your dogs are so cute! Especially Maggie. Dachshunds hold a special place in my heart since, well, I have one! Oscar sleeps in his kennel but in the mornings my husband brings him to me and he lets me snuggle with him like a teddy bear every now and then. It makes me melt! I actually just posted about Oscar this morning 🙂

  • Rachel January 28, 2010, 2:59 pm

My kitty sleeps on my feet every night. It’s very adorable and very annoying!

  • Krista January 28, 2010, 2:59 pm

I would love for my 3 cats to sleep with us, but my hubby refuses! 🙁 Mind you, he made them some pretty sweet beds down in the laundry room which they seem to really enjoy. They will, however, curl up with the kids in their beds until it’s time to go down…

  • Lauren @ Eater not a runner January 28, 2010, 3:02 pm

That looks like a great wrap! I don’t have any pets 🙁 But if I did they would definitely be in the bed with me!

  • Jess from www.upsanddownes.wordpress.com January 28, 2010, 3:09 pm

UGH I HATE being touched when I sleep too! Do you think it is a trust thing>!>!> hahah Husband stays on his side and me on mine! Dog sleeps at the foot of the bed and ends up on our heads sometimes too 😉

  • Caroline January 28, 2010, 3:13 pm

One of our dogs is medium sized (45ish pounds) and tends to push someone to the very edge of the bed (usually me!) and the other is a 4 month old puppy who I’m afraid would wake us up wanting to play if we let him in bed. Someday he’ll be allowed in though!

  • Caitlin in MD January 28, 2010, 3:16 pm

My boyfriend and I have a yellow lab…and she sleeps with us in our queen size bed every night. She’s small for a lab (somewhere in the 50-60 lb range) but still…she stretches ALLL the way out and takes up a ton of room. But we adore her and love all the snuggling. Most of the time she sleeps like a human with her body up and down and head on the pillow…we’re 100% aware that we are freaks. Oh and I’m 3 months pregnant so I’m sure that by the time the hot summer rolls around and I’m huge, our dog will need to find her way to her own bed on the floor!

    • Jessica January 29, 2010, 11:09 pm

My fi and I have a 65 pound lab and she sleeps next to me, usually with her head near my chest. When FI goes to work or school in the morning, she usually takes his place and puts her head on his pillow. I swore she wouldn’t be allowed on the bed, but the day of her 3 month “birthday” she learned to jump on the bed and has been there ever since.

  • Marissa January 28, 2010, 3:17 pm

    Looks like a great wrap!

  • Erin January 28, 2010, 3:17 pm

We kennel our dog but let our cats sleep with us at night. We had our cats for about a year before we had our dog, and they still haven’t warmed up to him yet (we’ve only had him since November) and I feel endlessly guilty about springing a dog on them so I let them have free reign of the bed, house, etc at night. Plus there isn’t a better way to wake up than with a chubby kitty purring in your arms!

  • Kalli@fitandfortysomething January 28, 2010, 3:20 pm

I have a big black lab who would take over the bed if she could. No she can’t sleep with us!

  • Katy ( The Balanced Foodie ) January 28, 2010, 3:20 pm

Dogs in the bed is apparently a huge no-no for Adam..I wish I would have known that before we got married! 😉 Just kidding, but I would so let the dog sleep in the bed if I could. Adam’s compromise is letting him on the couch.

  • Sarah @ See Sarah Eat January 28, 2010, 3:22 pm

Yep, my little stinker sleeps with us! She comes in handy during the winter time, I call her my little heater 😉

  • Heidi January 28, 2010, 3:24 pm

We have a dacshund too (cross) and she sleeps with us every night. She actually goes EVERYWHERE with us, even to work. She almost alwyas starts out at my feet, then at some point goes over to spoon my husband behind his knees, and sometimes she comes back and cuddles by my stomach in the morning.

If one of us sleeps on the couch she’ll rotate back and forth between us.

  • Laura January 28, 2010, 3:28 pm

YES!! All three of our dogs (not small dogs either) sleep with us in our king sized bed…. plus our new baby at times as well 🙂 Doggies are the BEST cuddlers 🙂

  • Kathleen January 28, 2010, 3:29 pm

I love sleeping with my chihuahua! She is so tiny that I used to be worried about smushing her in the bed but she barks at me if it looks like I am going to roll onto her. She sleeps on my heating blanket so I usually wake up when I roll onto the heating pad.

So cute! and kinda funny that you don’t like to be touched when you sleep! Me too! and the boyfriend gets mad about that :S

  • Judy January 28, 2010, 3:30 pm

Both our dogs spent their first year with us sleeping in their crate at night. Which worked really well when Chester had to have knee surgery at 9 months, and had to stay overnight at the vet.

But ever since they’ve slept with us. As does one of the cats (sadly, the other cat stopped sleeping with me when we got Chester, despite the fact that he was sleeping in his crate at the time!).

Lola sleeps between us. Chester sleeps under the covers, starts out next to me, and usually migrates to DH at some point during the night, altho sometimes he stays with me. And our very large 14 lb cat sleeps with me. It makes getting out of the bed tricky someday (as I get up before DH, so the cat gets out with me & the dogs stay sleeping with him).

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) January 28, 2010, 3:31 pm

We have three cats, two of them like to cuddle up in bed with us during the evening, but all of them come and go as they please!

  • Jennifer January 28, 2010, 3:32 pm

Both dogs love to sleep on our bed. One is a natural burrower and she’ll scratch and spin on the sheets until she has created the perfect nest. This dog also knows to hop onto the bed, squeeze between me and the husband, flick the covers up with her nose and snuggle between us when it’s really cold. Spoiled rotten, she is.

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) January 28, 2010, 3:35 pm

I’m the same way about fruit — I always “need” something sweet after a meal, so fruit is perfect.

  • Martha January 28, 2010, 3:41 pm

Hey Caitlin, I just wanted to draw your attention to this facebook group:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=271200817740&ref=nf

It’s kinda like Operation Beautiful! Maybe you and this guy can conspire… 🙂

    Cheers!

  • Karissa @ CardioFoodie January 28, 2010, 3:44 pm

Our little dog usually jumps up at some point and sleeps at the end of the bed. But when I get up (about 2 hours earlier then my husband) the dog immediately takes my spot and pillow. It is actually pretty cute!

  • Rose January 28, 2010, 3:44 pm

Scone is always in our bed!

  • PippaPatchwork January 28, 2010, 3:54 pm

I know what you mean about needing something sweet. I wish I was disciplined enough to stick with fruit 😉

    Your dogs are so cute!

  • Carol January 28, 2010, 3:56 pm

While both of my furbabies (cats) sleep on the bed, they go through phases. Right now, my girl sleeps beside me, but it used to be my boy, who now sleeps on a pile of clothes by the door. But he’s also the first to walk up me at 4am, to remind me that it’s almost breakfast time! Who needs a man, I ask you?!

  • Meredith January 28, 2010, 3:56 pm

My husband and I have a miniature dachshund (Emma) who is 5, and she has slept in our bed since the day we got her when she was 4 months old. I love it! She LOVES to snuggle and I pretty much can’t fall asleep without her curled up in my arms.

  • Lauren @Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful January 28, 2010, 3:57 pm

I have no pets so I wouldn’t know, but I probably wouldn’t want them to sleep with me because I love to sprawl out and I hate being woken up in the middle of a good sleep. On a food note-your wrap looks delicious. Such great fillings!

  • Jessica January 28, 2010, 4:01 pm

Our lab “puppy” is about 70lbs and he’d love to sleep in our bed, but we’ve tried it and he snores and wiggles too much! I am such a light sleeper and can’t have all that commotion. We do let him cuddle right before bed and first thing in the morning. Nothing beats waking up to puppy kisses and a wagging tail!

  • Beth January 28, 2010, 4:03 pm

I hate being touched too! I feel super claustrophobic if someone wants to hold me while I try to sleep. However, I let my 85 pound lab lay his head on me and even upgraded to a king size bed to accomodate. Trust me, you are not alone!

  • Matt January 28, 2010, 4:10 pm

I don’t have any pets, but when I lived at home, my dog would always sleep in my bed or my parents bed every single night. She is totally spoiled.

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write January 28, 2010, 4:11 pm

I always let my cat sleep with me. Now, hubby and I have no pets. I’m fairly certain, he wouldn’t like it.

  • Lauren January 28, 2010, 4:13 pm

We recently started letting our dog sleep in our bed, and we’ve created such a monster! Initially, he was SO excited to be in bed with us that he’d lick our faces incessantly and really not allow any sleep to be had. He’s gradually adjusting, and the whole experience is losing its initial luster 🙂 Thank god!

  • Jenn (www.j3nn.net) January 28, 2010, 4:22 pm

    That wrap looks sooo good!

We have 6 cats and we usually don’t let them sleep with us because they want to go in and out of the room every 15 minutes, which would disturb our sleep. We already learned our lesson lol.

    Jenn

  • ashleigh January 28, 2010, 4:24 pm

Awww so cute!! My cat Lilo who I have had since he was a kitten HAS to sleep with me every night. He usually sleeps by my feet but sometimes I wake up and he’s right next to me. I pretty much force my older cat Nelly to sleep with me but she always leaves in the middle of the night! They are so comforting to sleep with- I love them!

  • Ashlee January 28, 2010, 4:24 pm

I have an 80lb golden retriever that sleeps with me. He takes up so much room, but I can’t imagine him not sleeping with me. If my boy isn’t in town, the pup sleeps on his pillow just like a human. He doesn’t know he’s a dog!

  • Amy January 28, 2010, 4:26 pm

Oh, yes– our two cats share a bed with us (haha… as much as cats really sleep during the night…) Our older cat, Baron, sleeps between my feet, and our “baby” Gracie huddles in the very bottom corner of the bed on the hubby’s side. However, I am convinced that Gracie can tell time, because every morning at 5am she makes her way up the bed to snuggle with me 🙂

  • Ashley @ Good Taste. Healthy Me January 28, 2010, 4:31 pm

My parents let their dog sleep in their bed….I don’t have a doggy so I can’t say! I know my bf would not be happy with it…well at least he says he wouldn’t like it but I think he’d actually like it if we got a puppy.

  • Colleen January 28, 2010, 4:35 pm

We have two kitties and they are not even a year old yet…one of them would be a perfect snuggle-bug at night, but the other one bites our hair and attacks our feet. Maybe when they get older and lazy we won’t have to lock them out of our room at night. 🙂

  • Karla January 28, 2010, 4:36 pm

That’s cute! Sadly I don’t have any pets but I don’t think I would let them sleep on the bed with me. When I had a cat, I used to kick her out of my room at night (mostly because I can’t sleep with the door open and I didn’t want the litter box in my room).

  • Whitney @ whitinspired.wordpress.com January 28, 2010, 4:36 pm

I say no, because we fall asleep telling them “NO” to getting on the bed, but I always wake up in the middle of the night curled up into a ball because both dogs have taken over the foot of the bed! I don’t think it’s gross, I just have two really big dogs who shed A LOT and I don’t especially like waking up with dog hair in my mouth. But somehow they get up there every night and I never kick them off because they look so cute curled up asleep in bed with us 🙂

  • Ariffa January 28, 2010, 4:37 pm

    ooh your wrap looks awesome!
I would love to share my bed with my dog, shes so warm, but she snores, twitches, farts and growls =(

  • Naomi January 28, 2010, 4:41 pm

I wish I could have my dog in bed with me but my boyfriend’s allergic. On the few occasions that he’s snuck in for a cuddle my boyfriend has woken up with his chest and arms covered in hives!

  • Brie (The Fit Bride) January 28, 2010, 4:47 pm

Our dog is my fiance’s little spoon. Every morning I wake up to find him spooning the dog.

I have both cats on me all night. One likes to sleep on my pillow, and the other prefers between my feet.

  • Runeatrepeat January 28, 2010, 4:49 pm

I totally am not being racist, but I feel like most of the peeps I know (who happen to be Mexican, like me) don’t let dogs on the furniture or beds. I let my cat, but never my dogs.Maybe it’s just where I came from…

    • MLT January 28, 2010, 8:41 pm

I don’t think that’s racist at all. I’m not Mexican, but in my culture it is also pretty unheard of to let pets on beds. Most people don’t have “indoor” pets at all.

I wonder- doesn’t have pets in the bed make it really hot??!

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) January 28, 2010, 4:56 pm

How freakin’ cute that they snuggle up in your arms! Niko usually sleeps in the nook behind our knee (we both sleep on our sides.) We used to be afraid we’d smush her if we roll over, but if we even start to roll over on her, she lets out the most ferocious snarl/growl! LOL It’s too funny because she’s so harmless (and like, 5 pounds.)

  • Amber from Girl with the Red Hair January 28, 2010, 4:59 pm

My cat does the SAME THING! He sleeps at the end of the bed all night and then right around 5 or 5:30 when my alarm goes off he comes up and snuggles in my arms and licks my face (which is kind of annoying but wakes me up) haha! I would never not let him sleep in my bed and I’m sure I’d be the same way with a dog. My mom’s golden lab sleeps with her too – he’s 100 pounds! LOL

  • Stephanie January 28, 2010, 5:05 pm

My husband and I used to sleep with our dog ALL the time, but our bed is just too small to accomadate her. She loves sleeping by our feet or in the crook of our knees.. or in btwn our legs. We both toss and turn a little at night, and then we end up kicking her. We (but more my husband!) decided that she needed to sleep in her bed until we get a bigger bed.
Currently she snuggles with us until we’re ready to fall asleep, then my husband puts her in bed and tucks her in with a blanket (aw!). Then the rest of the night is she tries to sneak up on the bed.
n part we let her get away with it sometimes because she is a Jack Russell and likes to burrow.

  • Retta @ RunRettaRun January 28, 2010, 5:06 pm

Our Sheltie always slept in bed with us until we got him a Blue Heeler brother. My desire to have the fur kiddos in bed changed after having kiddos of the two legged variety.

  • Kate January 28, 2010, 5:19 pm

I was adamant that our dog (Norman the shitzu poodle mix) wouldn’t sleep in our bed. Mainly because I didn’t want it to be a habit, and I wanted Norman to be able to sleep on his own if he ever needed to. Norman didn’t get the memo and for 6 months he would start off on the floor and then beg to get up on the bed. I would get too hot or sleep poorly, so I stopped picking him up. After awhile he would go to my husband’s side of the bed. Then a few months ago my husband started sleeping with ear plugs and our dog doesn’t want anything to do with the bed! We even bought him stairs and he won’t use them. Although, a few weeks ago, I did wake up with Norman in between us and my husband said he didn’t bring Norman into the bed–maybe he is learning to use the stairs on his own?

I know of couples who sleep in double beds with labs! That is too squished for me. I like having lots of room when I sleep.

  • Allison K January 28, 2010, 5:19 pm

We dont let our dog sleep in bed with us. He also isnt’ allowed to even get on the bed unless he is invited. It’s hard for me to follow my own rules, but our current dog is the best dog we’ve ever owned, he is super well behaved!

  • Erika January 28, 2010, 5:29 pm

My Chihuahua, Juan Carlos, has slept in my bed pretty much every night since he adopted me 5 years ago. When I first starting dating my husband, he thought it was kinda gross that my pup and I slept together but now the three of us cuddle up in bed every night. In fact, I think if my hubs had to choose between me and the dog, he’d probably stick me on the floor and spoon it up with Juan 🙂

  • Kelly January 28, 2010, 5:32 pm

    I love Stacy’s Pita Chips….so yummy!! 🙂

We don’t let our dog sleep with us but mainly because he is HUGE!!! He easily weighs over half my body weight. There just isn’t enough room for me, the hubs and the dog in our Queen size bed! 🙂

  • Ellen Collis January 28, 2010, 5:43 pm

I don’t have a pet due to my teensy NYC apartment 🙁 Maybe one day!

The artichoke/sprout wrap is interesting…don’t know if I would like it. The artichokes might be too slimy for me, but I do love Stay’s pita chips! (Of course I like the less healthy food!) I never buy them though because I can’t stop at just a few. The orange looks really yummy, too!

  • Virginia January 28, 2010, 5:48 pm

Our Boston terrier sleeps with us in our full-sized bed, under the covers. Usually in the knee-crook, but sometimes I wake up and his head is right between ours on the pillows, gazing at us lovingly :). He really seems happiest when we’re all in the bed – maybe that’s his pack instinct? I wash the sheets weekly, so I’m not any more concerned about his slobber and hair than I am about my own. I do *not* love when he brings toys to bed, though.

  • susan (stepping off the coaster) January 28, 2010, 6:02 pm

i know this is not going to shock you, but i sleep with a doxie!! i’m worried that’s going to have to change since my poor son currently has 12 staples down his back from his surgery…

i think it’s hilarious when i wake up and he has made his way up from the bottom of the bed and has his head on my pillow like a person =)

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 6:52 pm

aww im sorry about your son 🙁

  • jamie January 28, 2010, 6:04 pm

We have two GIANT labs and they used to sleep w/ us… until we ran out of room and couldn’t sleep ourselves. Now we have to lock the door bc the chocolate can open it w/ her nose!
Letting dogs sleep w/ you is a personal thing. It probably is kinda gross… if you think about it… but they are our furbabies and I love them SO much. I love to cuddle their little furry faces!

  • Jessica @ Fit Chick Wannabe January 28, 2010, 6:07 pm

Both our dogs always sleep in the bed with us. Under the covers, too. They get cold I guess, bc they are small. They will walk up to your face and scratch at the covers until you let them under. I LOOOOOVE snuggling with them! <3<3<3

that is a good idea! i will have to do that soon!

  • Erin January 28, 2010, 6:24 pm

We let our first two dogs up on the bed but then I got tired of always ending up with dog hair in my mouth! Now our dogs are not allowed on the bed (or the couch) at all.

  • Amy January 28, 2010, 6:25 pm

We let our dog start off in bed with us, but then she spreads out and takes up too much room (60 pound dog plus 2 people in a queen size bed). We usually kick her out around 3 in the morning and she’s exiled to the chaise lounge. It’s a tough life for her.

  • Jessica January 28, 2010, 6:32 pm

Oh my, that’s probably one of my favorite lunches ever!! So simple, yet soooo perfect 🙂

Any day I get to make some delicious wrap with pita chips + salsa on the side is a happy day! And agreed–i always love ending lunch with some fruit too! Especially watermelon in the summatimeee

Your pups are so cute!! As tweeted, i’d snuggle with mine when I’m home more, but she’s just too shed-y and big!! Hahah

  • Lindsay Perrone (goodiesgalore) January 28, 2010, 6:50 pm

I love it too but we now have no sex. (Sometimes I like to blame it on the dog.)

  • Crystal January 28, 2010, 7:06 pm

Our dog and toddler sleep in bed with us. Thank goodness for king sized beds.

  • Jenn January 28, 2010, 7:12 pm

Our 55 pound AmStaff sleeps in our bed. Usually he sleeps on my pillow around my head but lately because of the cold weather he likes to sleep under the covers. It’s so cute when we wake up in the morning and he’s snoring like an old man!

  • Mary (Food Fit & Fun) January 28, 2010, 7:12 pm

that wrap looks delish. I love artichokes too. I never tried them in a wrap…I usually have them with pasta. I hope you were able to get your run in! 🙂

Also I LOVE sleeping with my dog (she lives with my parents). Whenever I am home she seeks out my bedroom to stay in. I miss her!

  • Jessica @ WHY DONTCHA RUN January 28, 2010, 7:25 pm

Our Sultan (mini dachshund) sleeps with us every night. He too is such a great snuggler! 🙂 You gotta love our furry friends!

  • Jennifer January 28, 2010, 7:43 pm

We have 2 cats. One rarely goes on the bed while the other one hangs out there all the time. He’s usually snoozing near my feet when I fall asleep but he leaves during the night. He comes back around 5 a.m., when he’d like me to get up…he walks up my body (usually stepping on my bladder a few times for good measure) and digs his bony little feet into my chest until I wake up. That’s when I flip him over to my husband’s side of the bed and go back to sleep until the alarm goes off, lol.

  • Lauren January 28, 2010, 8:02 pm

No way! I acquired a Weimaraner along with my husband this past October and aside from being near 90 lbs, she is smelly & sheds like there is NO TOMORROW (I have also recently discovered I am not much of an indoor animal person)…all we had growing up was dachshunds and cats (all outdoor animals). That has definitely been the biggest trial of our 100+ day old marriage but has been fun/fitfull to tackle together. Today, though, a rather lovely EXTRA-LARGE BED came in the mail for our big ol’ weimie and I think it is going to solve a good bit of the dilemma (I hope).

  • Lee January 28, 2010, 8:21 pm

We have a double bed, so when our 60 lb dog gets in the bed too, it’s a little too cozy. Especially since he likes to sleep on my side!

  • Abby January 28, 2010, 8:42 pm

My husband and I don’t let our dog sleep with us (he’s about 85 lbs), but we’ll let him cuddle with us in the morning. And my husband has been on a business trip all week, so Dex has been sleeping with me! I like the company!

  • Holly M January 28, 2010, 8:43 pm

Oh yes! We have 2 dogs that sleep with us. A beagle and a boxer! It upsets me to think about them sleeping on the floor!

  • Nicci@NiftyEats January 28, 2010, 9:14 pm

I like when my dog sleeps in the bed. She always comes to the top later and lays on my head…funny considering she’s not a small size dog, a collie mix 🙂

  • Michelle January 28, 2010, 9:31 pm

Oh yes, pets in the bed are a must. We say bedtime and both the dog and cat come upstairs and hop in bed with us…we wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 The cutest thing is when they spoon each other!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) January 28, 2010, 9:33 pm

we let our 100-lb lab and our 50-lb lab mix sleep in our queen size bed with us! the big one sleeps in between my legs, and the smaller one sleeps between my husband and me. people think we’re crazy (we might be) but it’s so nice on cold evenings, and they usually sleep on the ground when it’s warm 🙂

Rufio sleeps at the foot of the bed. We have an afghan down there and he makes a little nest and gets all cozy. On really cold nights he’ll lay down in between use so the 3 of us form a big letter H. He takes up a ton of space for a little 18 lb. monster, but I love it. There’s absolutely nothing in the world like waking up, looking to the foot of the bed and have him look up with those sweet brown eyes and roll over for a belly rub with his warm belly! Or being kissed awake. I love it!

One of my doggies, Oliver (yorkie-poo) sleeps with me every
night. He cuddles on my side of the bed, and ends
up moving to my legs and then by the time I wake up he’s in my arms. 🙂 I love it! Our other dog, however (Diego, chihuahua) doesn’t know how to cuddle, so he sleeps in his bed by himself. Lol.

Oliver’s on my bad list tonight, though, so he may be sleeping with his brother tonight!!

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) January 28, 2010, 10:00 pm

We swore we wouldn’t let the dogs sleep in our bed. We tried to give them their own beds and shut them out when we adopted them but they would howl all night. So we put their beds in our room on the floor at the foot of the bed and they walked right past and jumped in our king sized bed. They’ve been there ever since. Peanut makes a nest out of a blanket at the foot and Leo snuggles with Hunni. Cracks me up how spoiled they are.

  • Kristin January 28, 2010, 10:06 pm

My little Maltese sleeps curled up right against the small of my back and I love having him. But then again, I’m single so my dog is the only man in my bed. 🙂

  • Allison January 28, 2010, 10:08 pm

My dog won’t sleep with me, probably because I move too much. She sleeps in her own bed. She cuddles and watches tv with me though!

  • Penny January 28, 2010, 10:15 pm

For 11 (and a half) years my dog has slept under the blankets and against my legs. I can’t go to sleep without her.
My other dog used to sleep in bed with us too, but puppy number 1 started to get jealous. She started picking fights with number 2 when she got in bed. Number 2 gave up on it a few years ago. Now she sleeps on a doggie bed next to our bed.

  • Katharine January 28, 2010, 10:43 pm

Since we don’t have pets yet, I can’t really answer BUT I would be worried I couldn’t sleep with a dog/cat in the bed – I need SPACE when I sleep. But who knows, that could very well change once we get a cute cuddly puppy. 😉

  • Laura January 28, 2010, 10:49 pm

I used to let my cat sleep in my bed with me, they really are beautiful buddies to cuddle with.

Your lunch wrap looks AMAZING, I’m going to make one myself.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) January 28, 2010, 11:14 pm

I definitely don’t think it is gross to have pets in the bed, but I do find it uncomfortable. I can’t even snuggle with my hubby in bed!! I need to move a lot and it takes me a while to get comfy – dogs get in the way … but when I had a dog, I felt bad not letting him sleep with me, so he always won.

  • Jessica January 28, 2010, 11:31 pm

Our wonderful pitbull always sleeps in bed with us. In the winter she gets under the covers and we spoon her. It makes it hard to get out of bed in the morning because she’s such a good snuggler.

  • BroccoliHut January 28, 2010, 11:33 pm

    Fantastic wrap combo!
I let my dog Fred sleep with me–he’s my little hot water bottle when it’s cold outside:)

  • Jenny January 28, 2010, 11:36 pm

I just had to comment on the “pets in bed” topic! I love it, and I think pets are awesome bed mates. My cat always sleeps with me at home, and when my parents are out of town the dog (a Bichon Frise) joins us too. My cat does NOT like to share though 🙂

  • allijag January 29, 2010, 12:02 am

Of course!!! Lando either sleeps curled up between my legs (I sleep with one leg straight, the other one bent so there’s a little nook) or she lays on the pillow between me and mike 🙂 harvey just finds a spot where ever she can – even if it means curling up in a ball on top of my HEAD like she did the other day! 🙂

  • Jenny Eastwood@ JennyLikesToRun, Teenager with a healthy twist on life :) January 29, 2010, 12:30 am

I love my animals so much, and for the majority of my life my cats have slept in my room all the time, but they gave my bed and carpet fleas!!! And as most animal owners know, fleas are a pain in the butt and so hard to get rid of.
I recently managed to rid myself of the worst of it, and so invoking a new rule that unfortunately no cats are allowed on my bed anymore.

  • amanda@thegrainsofparadise January 29, 2010, 1:51 am

I wish my cat slept in our bed but instead he just sits in the window and stares at us all night long….kinda freaky actually lol!

  • Juani January 29, 2010, 5:21 am

My boyfriend and I have one cat of our own,and 2 that we are sort of ‘fostering’.Our own cat has stopped sleeping on the bed with us,because one of our ‘foster’ kitties has taken over the bed.She sleeps on our bed all day,and basically just waits for my boyfriend to get into bed,so she can cuddle with him.

I love that my boyfriend likes having pets sleep in the bed with you, because I love it!He actually gets quite upset/offended if none of the cats are lying near him on the bed.LOL

  • Marla January 29, 2010, 5:41 am

I LOVE dogs soooo much, but doesn’t anyone worry about fleas etc on sheets ever?Ewwwwww!

    • caitlin January 29, 2010, 7:33 am

Naw… if my doggies have fleas, I have a MUCH bigger problem than just fleas in my bed – all over the rug, sofa, etc! hehe.

  • Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place January 29, 2010, 8:26 am

I love sleeping with my puppy! She likes to be on the pillow snuggled in tight, it’s so cute.

  • Kara January 29, 2010, 9:28 am

I guess I’m a mean one, but my dog sleeps in her crate (in the bedroom) For me, it’s a training/dominance issue. Once the dog sleeps on the same level as me, it can begin to think that it’s equal to me (pack-wise). For this reason, I have NEVER let any of my dogs sleep with me. I don’t have small cute dogs like Maggie and James, as I have always had Dobermans and now have a Black and Tan Coonhound mix. I can see having a small dog in bed, but my husband would never go for that.

I’m also very against co-sleeping for kids too, so my meanness is not limited to dogs 🙂

    • Paula January 29, 2010, 2:26 pm

Really? I mean, I respect your decision, but we have 3 dogs sleeping with us (not little ones like Caitlin’s, either), and they have NO problem knowing just who is in charge in our house. That would be us humans! We control all aspects of their lives, including giving them the right to be on furniture (and get down if we tell them), they do not mistake us for pack mates, and understand that we are the leaders.

Dominance/alpha theory in regards to domestic animals has changed a lot over the years. Just sayin’.

      • Kara January 29, 2010, 2:31 pm

The treatment of dogs (sharing the bed and other issues) is somewhat dependent on the breed. Some breeds and dog personalities need more boundaries than others. Using the pack mentality in training has changed a lot in recent years, and as a horse and dog trainer, I haven’t met another dog trainer who thinks it’s a good idea for a dominant dog to sleep in bed. Some dogs are not dominant and do not push their place in the “pack,” while others never stop looking for a moment of weakness in the “alpha”.

I’m glad that you have no problems with your 3 large dogs in your bed. I would have a different perspective if I had adorable dogs like Caitlin!

        • caitlin January 29, 2010, 2:38 pm

i agree with Kara – I can definitely see some dogs as NEEDING to be on the floor. I saw an episode of Cesar when the dogs would literally push the owners off the bed and they would sleep on the COUCH. THE COUCH!!!

  • Tricia January 29, 2010, 10:21 am

Dogs in the bed are the best! We have two Westies and one sleeps on the extra pillow I keep above my own pillow just for him and then suffer with my feet hanging off the bed. My younger little girl sleeps curled up right next to me as we spoon all night long! We don’t have children, what can I say? They are my children!

  • Molly January 29, 2010, 10:24 am

I usually go to bed before my husband. Because I don’t like to “feel” alone, I will leave the door cracked open just enough to let some light in and any of our 3 cats. Often one of the cats will come sleep with me for a little bit, then my husband will put the cat in the hallway and close the door when he comes to bed. You see, cats will get up and play during the night. They’ll either run on your bed tackling their own tail or your foot if you happen to move it! They’ll chase each other around your room. You then get woken up, then mad that you were woke up, then you’re trying to catch the cats in the middle of the night to get them out of your room! We are huge animal lovers here, but I need my sleep! Oh, and hubs and I cuddle part of the night ;o) On and off as the night goes on 🙂 But we’re also “that” couple who watches TV every night, completely entangled with each other on the couch. We hold hands in the car and when we’re out and about. Every time we leave each other, even just going to the store, we part with a hug and kiss and ‘I love you’. We’ve been together for 18+yrs and have 2 kids ages 9 & 12. All couples are different 🙂

  • Stephanie January 29, 2010, 10:48 am

Our cat sleeps with us every night! He loves my fleece blanket and that has to be on top so he can sleep on it. Once I get up, he ventures over to hubby for some warmth. 🙂

  • Miriam January 29, 2010, 11:06 am

I don’t let her sleep with me, I never did and she never tried. She doesn’t go on the couch either. Sometimes I WANT her to come with me on the couch but she would run away as soon as she can (the moment I stop holding her close). Strange no…? I do not understand why she is so scared of the bed or the couch… She is 7 1/2 now and I got her while she was still a puppy.

    • Miriam January 29, 2010, 11:09 am

      her : my dog! 😉

  • Amber January 29, 2010, 1:19 pm

My dog definitely sleeps in the bed with us – all 65 lbs of him in our queen sized bed. My boyfriend also doesn’t like to be touched but I like to cuddle so I cuddle with my puppy. Unfortunately he likes to dream about running so I tend to get kicked a lot at night…but I can’t seem to kick him out – he is too cute!

  • Heather January 29, 2010, 2:14 pm

My dogs would just die if they didn’t get to sleep in the bed. I feel so lonely when they jump down inthe middle of the night for whatever reason. And they are both 100lbs each! haha.

  • My Life As I Live It January 30, 2010, 11:08 am

Our dogs used to sleep with us but my MIL got them each their own pomposon beds and they sleep in those. I do let them sneak into bed with me every once in awhile, but it’s only when the hubs is out of town because he no longer allows them to be in our bed, I miss it.
