Orlando, Sweet Orlando

in All Posts

I’m back in Orlando for approximately 30 hours before I leave for the Healthy Living Summit! AHHHH so excited.

I had a lovely farewell brekkie with my mom before I got on the plane:

I had watermelon and toast with almond butter.

She drove me to the airport and I prompty started my Operation Beautiful note-posting spree in the Knoxville Airport:

On my first flight, I snacked on a Kashi TLC bar:

So, I’m about halfway through The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and I must say that I am REALLY impressed.  It is SO engrossing.  I may be a total dork, but I find the industrial food system to be really, really interesting.  Especially all the information about Big Organic (Is Big Organic really any better than industrial food? That’s a pretty complicated question!). I’ll do a full book review when I’m done, I promise.

I posted two more Operation Beautiful notes when I landed in Atlanta:

It makes me so happy to do that!  🙂

I grabbed a banana before my flight:

And I snagged peanuts from the flight attendant:

One taxi cab ride later, I was HOME!  I miss my mom, but there is nothing like being in your old house, smelling your Husband’s smell on the pillowcase (is that weird? probably), and petting your doggies.

I made a quick lunch:

Which included a veggie burger with cheese, a carrot, and blueberries.

I have a list of things a MILE long to get done, including a two-a-day run and bike ride.  I am so excited for the Healthy Living Summit that I can barely breathe!!!

I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on the book when you're done. I started reading it last year but got distracted. I need to pick it up again!

I really enjoyed The Omnivore's Dilemma – the description of the chicken farms was heartbreaking. Your home cooked lunch looks perfect after a day of travelling!

  • Chloe (Naturally Frugal) August 12, 2009, 11:45 am

I LOVE the Omnivores Dilemma, it was my first intro to Michael Pollan and now I'm hooked.

Can't wait to see what you guys have cooked up for the HLS!

Missing your husband's scent is not weird at all. Glad you had a good time!

  • Elina August 12, 2009, 11:54 am

Haha, my husband says that I have "Elina smell" and he loves it. He says he misses it when I'm not around. 😀

I don't think it's weird to like your hubby's smell – when my boyfriend was out of town and came back, it was so nice to have him and his smell back!

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) August 12, 2009, 3:00 pm

That's not weird at all! It's always good to be back home, no matter how wonderful a trip was in my opinion.:)

  • Casey @ Double Scooped August 12, 2009, 3:10 pm

    yayyyyyy Friday!!

By the way, if we can't get to the cocktail party on Friday until 10, is that a problem? My friend Ania and I would LOVE to be there for 7 but, unfortunately, WORK is a bit of an inconvenience! lol

  • Casey @ Double Scooped August 12, 2009, 3:11 pm

and p.s. the pillows DO smell magnificiently like BOY. 🙂

If you are interested in Big Organic you should pick up Organic, Inc by Samuel Fromartz. It's a really good look at the progression from *wee* organic to Big Organic. Highly recommend!

That veggie burger looks delicious! I love when you can see the actual veggies.

I can't wait to read more about the omnivore's dilemma. I'm looking for a new book to read, this one might be the lucky book!

  • Nina August 12, 2009, 5:25 pm

You made me really interested in reading that book. Have a great time in Boston!

  • Sammie August 13, 2009, 4:52 am

Vacation is always fun but I love to come home to the smell of my own house. It is so comforting. I hope that you have a safe trip to Boston. I can't wait to finally meet the Florida girls.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the book. It sounds like a read that I might like too.
