Family Influence

Angels and Demons was SOOOOO good! It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.  Definitely go watch it!

Beyond my movie review, I don’t have much to report on the food front… but I do have a kind of fun announcement at the end!  But first….

Cereal and Chobani around 4 PM before the movie.

And dinner around 10:00 PM when we got back:

CIMG5174

A Flat Out wrap with Sabra Roasted Tomato hummus and lettuce.  Plus a side of blackberries!

OK! Time for a fun announcement

Today the Husband said he’s going to "try to eat vegetarian"!  I was so excited and pleased.  He’s an animal lover, too, and I think my vegetarianism was the push he needed to go veggie, too.  First, he’s going to eat up our remaining stock of frozen meats.  Then, he’s going to try to make it a sloooow transition so that it is not a sudden shift and thus more maintainable.  I’m so happy!

Have you influenced your friends’ or family’s eating habits? How?

Glad to hear that Angels and Demons was good! I love Dan Brown’s books and I can’t wait to see the movie.

I think that I influenced my BF to eat healthier! When we first met he “didn’t like” a single veggie and now he eats almost all of them (just not tomatoes)!! He seriously was eating McDonalds the day I met him… oh man.

My fiance and I saw Angels & Demons last night and thought it was pretty good, too! We've both read the book and still enjoyed the movie…sometimes it doesn't work out like that 😉

I've influenced my fiance with his eating habits. We're living together now but he's moving in a few months to go to school about 4 hours away and he was just saying (tonight, actually!) that he doesn't want to go back to eating the "crap" that he used to eat. He's gonna miss my yummy, healthy meals 🙂

I hear a lot of my friends are eating their oats these days. 🙂

    Haha that’s so cool!!!

I think I have definitely influenced my family’s eating habits. I am mostly vegetarian so that has influenced my family some. Since I started my own blog my little sister has asked me for food advice so I know the habits I’m learning are rubbing off on her!

That is exciting! I bet y’all will have fun going through this together. And yes, my mom and I eat healthfully together. 🙂 We help each other.

Awww your hubby is such a sweet heart! I think it’s hard not to influence your friends’/family’s lifestyles if you are really passionate about yours and the results of it are positive. I’m not sure I would be 150 pounds lighter had my twin not showed me that eating healthier and exercising actually work for weight-loss/health-gain! 😀

so fun! glad you enjoyed the movie!!

James is slowly eating less and less meat…he even turned down a steak when he was at his mom’s house! it makes me so happy to see because it’s so much better for his health, the planet, and our grocery bill. everyone wins.

I have influenced my mom’s eating habits a bit – she has always been a really intuitive eater, but I have introduced her to certain foods – like hummus and soy milk, that she now loves! My boyfriend is the same … has always had the desire to be healthy, and I have shown him that some foods that he thought he would hate, like tofu, are yummy!!

HAHA just wanted to let you know that I was running on a pretty secluded trail the other day and tried out your “vogue” dance moves – it made me crack up 🙂

    Wow, that wrap looks perfect!

I have definitely influenced my family’s eating choices. Instead of Goldfish and Teddy Grahams, our pantry is now filled with whole grain crackers and nuts–love it!

Well, I got my husband to go vegan with me for 2 weeks (I was only vegan for 2weeks) awhile back. But my biggest accomplishment was getting my girlfriends hooked on bubble tea!

  • sandy May 16, 2009, 9:38 pm

how awesome! You can save money on groceries so u dont hafta work 2 jobs anymore )=
My bf is eating slightly healthier, when I am not around though….yeah thats when he eats anything in sight. He once weighed 380(before we went out lol) pounds and got down to 195 but now is at 230, so I am trying to instill healthier habits since its much easier to gain all that weight back then lose it!

  • Run Sarah May 16, 2009, 10:31 pm

Thats awesome! My fiance is a meat eater but since I’ve become veg, he’s often opted for the vegetarian options instead.

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) May 16, 2009, 10:36 pm

    Hmmm…I think I predicted this.

I’m calling Veggie Girl and telling her to put everything on Red 42.

I definitely have influenced my family. I just posted about a Tofurkey picnic.

Thanks for the review of "Angels & Demons". I was kind of on the fence about it after the FAILURE that was "Da Vinci Code", but now, I'll probably go see it.

That's pretty cool that the hubs is going to go veggie too. Awwwww…

  • Jennifer @ His N' Her Health May 16, 2009, 10:51 pm

That is so exciting! I wish my boyfriend will go completely veg but he hasn’t yet, but I don’t push it. My habits had definitely influenced him, he even said next time he should get the veggie tacos at a restaurant. However many of my friends think I am crazy for eating so healthy and say they don’t get how I do it all the time! Oh well, can’t win them all!

  • redheadedjournal May 16, 2009, 11:47 pm

When my husband and I first started dating he ate red meat and potatoes…the end. Now he eats mostly vegetarian and prefers mock meat over the real stuff!

  • Michelle May 17, 2009, 12:14 am

Interesting. I lost about 120lbs on WW and my friend found me on Facebook. She started cause it worked for me. While she was doing it she youtubed herself, WW found her and made her a spokes person..she got an AD in time square. So I guess I’ve influenced people?

    Blackberries..oh how I miss you. They’re 8.00 for 3oz in Australia.

  • Leah @ Simply Fabulous May 17, 2009, 2:41 am

I have definitely influenced Steve’s eating habits but I think he’ll always be a meat eater. He just loves it. I totally support him because he supports me in my healthy eating adventures so whichever he wants to do i’m fine with it!

  • Megan May 17, 2009, 2:59 am

aw yay for husband! that’s so exciting, at least you guys will have each other for veg support! I think i’ve influenced a few people to eat healthier, but i have only turned one person veg. they’re a work in progress!!

lovinnnnnn that wrap. A LOT. i loke when yummy creamy things ooze out. mmm.

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! May 17, 2009, 3:28 am

definitely people around us influence us a lot, especially in term of food and workouts! 🙂

  • itsawrapteacher May 17, 2009, 5:02 am

I have definitely impacted my parents eating habits. They are more conscious of what they eat and I always make them go for walks with me in the local park. Just yesterday, I bought a tub of Sabra’s hummus for my mom and she LOVED it! They still have a weakness for my baking though 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point May 17, 2009, 5:32 am

you guys are such positive influences!! i love it.

    amanda- awesome dances moves!

  • kilax May 17, 2009, 7:15 am

I hope to see the movie soon! I loved the book (especially since I lived in Rome for awhile!) and I love Ewan McGregor!

My husband became a vegetarian after dating me for a few years. I didn’t push him towards it, but I am happy he made the switch!

  • Stacey May 17, 2009, 7:38 am

Ever since I became vegetarian my boyfriend eats more like I do, especially on the weekends! I even got him to try tofu!

  • Anna May 17, 2009, 7:44 am

    Good for the husband!

My healthy eating habits have definitely affected my family’s habits. I do a lot of the dinner cooking when I’m home, and it’s always vegetarian (and often vegan). They are usually willing to eat whatever I make and often really enjoy it! They’ve especially been loving the recipes from Veganomicon.

  • Christina May 17, 2009, 7:59 am

I got my boyfriend to stop drinking soda and to read the ingredient lists on things to check for hfcs. He bought Annie’s spaghetti O’s the other day even though they were more expensive. I was so proud!

  • Leanne May 17, 2009, 8:19 am

I have totally rubbed off on my step-dad since I’ve been living back home for the summer… Whenever we go out to eat, he just tells me to order for him now.

  • Gretchen May 17, 2009, 11:44 am

My fiance definitely eats a lot less meat since he started seeing me. He was a healthy eater to begin with, but he’s gotten so used to eating my vegetarian and fish-based meals that he says he doesn’t even enjoy meat that much anymore!

  • Kiersten May 17, 2009, 1:14 pm

I’ve definitely influenced my boyfriend’s eating habits once we moved in together. Before that he ate like a typical guy- burgers and fries, junk food, etc. He was always a good sport though and would try whatever I made. I’ve been an incredibly healthy eater for years, so of course the meals I prepared for us were always healthy. After a while he started picking up my eating habits, even though I never gave him a hard time about the crap he ate. He and I even went vegan together.

I influence my mom a little when I am back home too. She doesn’t eat well when I am not there, but she tries to eat healthy when I am around. For some reason I think I make her feel guilty about the way she eats. (not on purpose though)

  • Emily May 17, 2009, 6:51 pm

I cut my meat consumption by more than half in December and have generally improved my eating habits since then.

My fiance and I have been talking food all the time since (my blog may have something to do with that…) and he just bought whole wheat pasta, which he never does! Living together might be bearable after all.

My mother’s started eating better too. She hasn’t credited me, but I know I’ve made her more aware.

Thanks for sharing all your meals!

  • Anonymous May 18, 2009, 6:00 pm

I changed the way my husband eats too! When we met he literally ate pb toast for breakfast, McDonald’s burger and fries for lunch and Ramon Noodle for dinner. Every day. But now – he’s eating regular dinners, bananas, yogurt – and even works out!
