Gasparilla Update

in All Posts

Last night, I knowingly broke Crap Free Week guidelines for the first time (without good reason).

CIMG1923

I couldn’t help it! The chocolate orange was calling my name!  Oh well, it was totally worth it. 🙂

For breakfast, I went back to my Crap Free ways for the last day of the challenge (check back tomorrow for my recap).  All I can say is… Thank GOD this is almost over!

CIMG1925

I had banana oatmeal with:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings:  unsweetened coconut, almonds

Gasparilla Bud Light Challenge – 3 Races in 2 Days Challenge UPDATE

So, I was checking out my training program for Gasparilla and I think when I created it that I added in an extra week! 🙂 Because I only have TWO weeks of training, not THREE, left. ECK!!!

Here’s the final two weeks of my countdown:

Week Sat Sun Mon Tues Wed Th Fri
Feb 7 Cross 5
Feb 14 Cross 10 Cross Rest 6 8×400 5
Feb 21 Rest 12 Cross 4 Rest Rest Rest
Feb 28 5K and 15K Half Mar.

Notes:

8×400 = Speedwork (8 sets of 400 meter sprints)

Cross = Elliptical, Swimming, or Bike

I am getting pretty nervous about this race — it is the closest I will ever get to running a marathon (it’s basically 12.4 miles on Saturday and 13.1 on Sunday).  I know I can do it, but I’m scared about my knees holding up, and I don’t want to totally suck, either!

I am entering the races with the knowledge that my best chance to set a new Personal Record (PR) is the 15K, which is the first race.  I’m just going to have fun on the 5k and then see what happens with the Half.

IF YOU WILL BE IN TAMPA FOR GASPARILLA AND WOULD LIKE TO MEET UP, please shoot me an e-mail at seebriderun@gmail.com!  Meghann and I are thinking about organizing a lunch.

You can do it!! It’s so close, that is exciting!

  • Erica February 12, 2009, 5:13 am

I think you are just amazing for doing this race! I know you can do it! We will all be here cheering you on 🙂

  • Leanne February 12, 2009, 5:13 am

Is seems like you’ve been doing Crap Free Week for about 3 weeks!! ha ha… I can only imagine how you feel you poor girl! One more day to go, you’re almost there!

  • Meghann February 12, 2009, 5:21 am

OMG I can’t believe how close Gasparilla is getting! I feel so unprepared. By the way I attened a pirates party a couple of summers ago and I dug what I wore out of the closet last night. I can’t wear the skirt or the shirt anymore, but i have a skull and crossbone scarf 🙂

  • Erin February 12, 2009, 5:22 am

I had a chocolate attack last night too! But I haven’t been eating crap free all week, haha.
At least you’re off tomorrow! Good luck with the race. I think it sounds super hardcore!

  • Mrs. LC February 12, 2009, 5:42 am

We had the EXACT same breakfast this am! I’m pretty sure even the same brand unsweetened coconut too, if you bought it at the Turkey Lk Rd WF. 🙂

hey caitlin! can i just thank u for leaving that comment on my blog? i think B was being a bitch too-i just felt weird posting those exact words-but that is what i would classify her as. i think she was def. transferring her ugly food thoughts onto me, which makes me angry: like who does she think she is?

keep on keepin on! your doing excellent!

  • VeggieGirl February 12, 2009, 5:49 am

Those chocolate-orange segments are classic!! I still recommend you try the chocolate-raspberry one though 🙂

You can doooo it!!! You’ll rock the race.

  • Mica February 12, 2009, 5:50 am

No worries–chocolate orange is a perfectly good reason to break crap-free week. After all, it’s from the UK, and usually good things come from there! (Like your husband, and the spice girls, and “spotted dick”, which is actually bad.)

Good luck on the last two weeks of your program. I think you’ll do great!
(BTW–do you do your speedwork on a treadmill?)

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 12, 2009, 5:53 am

mica- LOL. and yes i do speedwork on the treadmill. if i had a garmin i would do it outside!

  • Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) February 12, 2009, 6:22 am

Caitlin, I know I’ve said this before, but I really think you should try taking an ice bath Saturday after your run! That will really help with any inflammation and keep your soreness to a minimum…another one on Sunday would be a really good idea. Good luck-you’re going to do great!

  • dailygoods February 12, 2009, 6:25 am

ah its so close! you’re going to do amazing!!! can’t wait to hear how it goes girl. im making your sweet potato black bean burgers tonight for dinner. do you add any spices? or just mix the two and put them on the pan? Thanks 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 12, 2009, 6:27 am

heather – thanks for the recommendation, i definitely plan on taking an icy plunge!

daily goods – i just use pepper. 🙂

  • tryingforatri February 12, 2009, 6:41 am

Those Gasparilla races sound so intense! What a great challenge! You’ll do great 🙂

  • brandi February 12, 2009, 6:58 am

You guys are going to be awesome!!!

I would take a break from crap free week for that chocolate, too 🙂

  • Betsy February 12, 2009, 7:16 am

You and Meghann are so inspiring – I can’t wait til it gets warmer and I can actually sign up for a race. In the mean time, reading about you guys is keeping me motivated. 🙂

  • Anna February 12, 2009, 7:28 am

I remember getting those chocolate oranges in my Christmas stocking when I was younger… so good. and so much fun to break them open!

Also, I’ve been reading your blog for awhile but don’t think ever commented before, so HEY! I started my own blog recently, so invite you to come check it out!

  • Ava February 12, 2009, 7:42 am

So Caitlin, I just had the most amazing bowl of banana oatmeal ever. I basically took my regular bowl of oats, milk, vanilla extract, banana and topped it off with Nutella instead of my usual peanut butter. OMG YUMMMMM

Just thought I’d share since I know you too are a fan of banana oats 🙂

  • ksgoodeats February 12, 2009, 8:22 am

Good luck with training – you’ll be great!!

  • EL February 12, 2009, 8:24 am

I am soooo jealous! I ran the Gasparilla half last year and was hoping to do it again, but no such luck. Last year, My husband was already in town for work, so at the last minute I decided to fly down and run. I haven’t been to Tampa since July and I am in withdrawal.

Good luck, I am sure you are going to kick some butt!

  • Quinn February 12, 2009, 9:12 am

One of my best friends lives in Tampa and goes to Gasparilla EVERY year. I bet you’ll do great! And, it’s okay to deviate from crap free week for a chocolate orange. Those things are so worth it.

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) February 12, 2009, 9:29 am

I agree, this Crap Free Week has felt eternal. Still, you’ve had me thinking of trying something similar myself (mostly to out the artificial sweeteners, bars and other non-foods). I can’t wait to read your recap post to talk me out of it.

I would love to do the Gasparilla race. It sounds awesome. Your training looks good!

  • HangryPants February 12, 2009, 10:04 am

I wish I could come for the big race days! I would love to hang w/ you and Meghann.

I love your attitude about CFW! At least you didn’t have a defeatist, “Oh well, mine as well eat everything in sight now” attitude!

  • Meg February 12, 2009, 10:14 am

Yummy oats! After hearing your reactions to crap free week, I am totally believing the everything in moderation idea!

  • aron February 12, 2009, 10:22 am

that race sounds SO fun!!! you will do great! just pick one as a goal race, and take the others by feel and have fun!

  • ohsheglows.com February 12, 2009, 10:40 am

Goodluck with your races coming up!!! I’m sure you will rock them. I guess I will have to live through you vicariously….I had to cancel my 8 mile race for this upcoming weekend due to my injury! 🙁

  • Anonymous February 12, 2009, 10:47 am

I’m really looking forward to tomorrow to hear your thoughts about CFW (though your comments have made it pretty clear, haha). One more day! You can do it!

  • Bec February 12, 2009, 2:57 pm

Chocolate is basically a health food anyways lol. Good luck with the race!

  • Angie Eats Peace February 12, 2009, 11:33 pm
