Another Sunny 6.0 Miler

in All Posts

Afternoon!  I went on a very nice 6.0 mile run that took me exactly 1 hour.  :)  That’s a very pleasant pace for me — I’m not killing myself and I’m not going too slowly, either!  It was sure bright and hot outside.

After posting breakfast, I got sucked into A Baby Story on TLC (lamest show ever, I don’t know why I was watching) and didn’t leave the house until 11 AM.  By that time, I felt like I needed a small snack before my run, so I tried 3 Strawberry Clif Shot Bloks.

I know these are suppose to be mid-run snacks, but the 100-calorie chews were perfect for pre-run fuel, too!

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Calories Burned:  475 (estimate)

By the time I got home, I was ready for lunch!

CIMG1958

I had a glass of milk, a turkey wrap, and celery sticks.

This lunch looks light, but the wrap actually packed quite a bunch because I smeared the inside with about 2 servings of homemade hummus.  MMMM!

After lunch, I ran a bunch of errands and "accidentally" stopped in Ross (it’s like Marshalls), which actually happens to be one of my favorite stores.  I think it depends on the specific store, but my local Ross carries a lot of cute stuff.

CIMG1962

I picked up this cute cotton sundress for $12.99!  I’m going to wear it tomorrow for Valentine’s Day.

When I got home from shopping, I settled down for my afternoon snack…. I bet you can guess what I had!

CIMG1963

Yup!! Yogurt and cereal… specifically, Fiber 1.  The yogurt was Vanilla Chobani, which my grocery store started to carry in TUBS last week.

Now, I’m going to bake Valentine’s Day Gingerbread Cookies!  Christy from Monterey, California won a batch of these yummy cookies during Meghann’s Blogging Bake Sale.  THANKS AGAIN, Christy! 🙂

What’s your favorite store?

TARGET! I love how even though it’s reasonably priced you can still find some pretty cute stuff!

  • Amanda February 13, 2009, 1:02 pm

I am very jealous of your free Friday and the ability to run during the day!! Sounds like it was a great one 🙂

In theory, my favorite store is JCrew but it is way too overpriced (I usually ask for gift cards/go to the outlet). I am recently really liking Gap which I used to think was so boring – I have really long legs and their pants are the only ones that fit me for work!! It's also fun to browse H&M for awesome deals!

  • sarahdbelle February 13, 2009, 1:06 pm

I can barely afford anything there, but I love anthropologie!

I love New York & Company and the Gap, but I can't afford to buy anything there! That's awesome that you got that dress so cheap, I need to find some good deals like that 😉

I love the return of the yogurt+cereal combos!

My favorite more practical store: Target. Favorite store I can only sometimes afford: Anthropologie

Enjoy the rest of your lovely day!

Love that dress – so pretty! My favorite store(s) are Michael's, Barnes & Noble and Express! Oh, and the grocery store – LOL 🙂

  • lauren February 13, 2009, 1:21 pm

Anthropologie – except everything is a million dollars. Nordstrom Rack is pretty awesome. Basically like a Ross/Marshalls feel – except it is all Nordstroms older stuff. I could spend hours there.

My favorite store is Target! I get everything there, even most of my food!

  • alessa February 13, 2009, 1:26 pm

love the dress! its so great finding cute clothes for cheap. hope you have a wonderful valentines day!

  • Julie February 13, 2009, 1:35 pm

I’m jealous you get Fridays off, AND you can wear a freakin’ sundress on Valentines (which is very cute by the way)!!

My fave store is Target. They have really cute clothes…I can never go in there without spending at least $100 on random things I didn’t know I needed.

  • Missy February 13, 2009, 1:37 pm

Cute dress! I love finding clothes in stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx! It’s exciting!

  • Mica February 13, 2009, 1:45 pm

    That dress is so cute!

And I never shop for clothes, but now that I hear that Target is good, I might have to start!

  • Betsy February 13, 2009, 1:46 pm

Cute dress! And reading about your run makes me want to go through with mine… even though it's like 30 something!

And I love J.Crew… my credit card balance for them can prove it. But for even more extravagant purchases I love Betsey Johnson & BCBG!

Wait– a Baby Story is lame? I always get sucked into that one. (And all tearful.) Oops. 😉 We have Ross here, too, dangerously close to where I work. Lunch-hour close!

Hi, Caitlin … I have a question for your readers, so I hope you don’t mind if I post it here.

I’m a reporter and have the chance to interview a nationally renowned eating disorder counselor/clinician next week. What kinds of questions do you all think I should ask him?

So far, I want to ask about the social pressures on women to look a certain way, the type of woman (if there is one) who is more susceptible to an ED … and more! Thanks, guys.

carrie – maybe try talking to amy http://lovecoffeetalk.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default or lee http://philabundanceoflife.wordpress.com

they are open open about their EDs and they might have excellent ideas.

  • Carrie H February 13, 2009, 2:23 pm

Good idea … I’ve checked out Lee’s blog a couple times and I just sent her an e-mail. Thanks!

    Carrie H

And I love your Valentine’s dress too! I echo the girl who said you’re lucky to be able to wear a sundress in Feb … my husband’ll be lucky if I take my snow boots off. 🙂 Kiddin’.

Glad the dreaded 6 mile distance went well.

As for Baby Story, I can loan you some home videos if you want. Lets just say 20+ hours of labor, 4 failed epidural attempts. Our version is NOT edited/bleeped for TV, though.

  • Leah February 13, 2009, 2:45 pm

OH one other thing I’ve been meaning to ask you!!

What colour shoes did your girls wear in your wedding with the yellow dresses?

My dresses are dark red (think dark red wine). I’m really struggling to think about what colour shoes to have them wear. I’m thinking possibly silver.. like a very thin strapped silver shoe.

    Any ideas?

  • Mrs. LC February 13, 2009, 2:53 pm

I LOVEEEE Ross! Ironic, since my husband is Ross, too. 🙂 But it’s always been a favorite store! We don’t have one here, but I always go in whenever I pass one!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 13, 2009, 3:46 pm

Leah – I was really laid back about my bridesmaids. i told them they needed to wear “light beige/tan” strappy sandles with heels, and beyond that i didn’t care what they looked like or if they matched. being a bridesmaid is really expensive and i wanted them to wear something they had already OR go buy a pair of shoes they liked and would re-wear. for dark red dresses, i would probably tell them to just wear black strapy sandles (not pumps or peeptoes). they probably have a pair they could wear! the husband was so worried the girls would look weird without “matching shoes” because they had short dresses, but i didnt even notice it on the day or in pictures.

I heart J. Crew. I am a closet preppy/WASP trying to pass myself off as a hipster and failing terribly.

Are those Clif Shot Blocks any good? I usually use the gels on my long runs but I have a pack of the blocks in my cabinet and have been thinking I should try them out.

  • ConsiderEatz! February 13, 2009, 5:43 pm

Fabulous dress girl, I want to see the shoes next! 😉

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 13, 2009, 6:44 pm

erin – i think the clif shot bloks are the best mid-run snacks ive tried!

  • Holly February 13, 2009, 7:10 pm

    Target = Best Store Ever!

  • Angie Eats Peace February 13, 2009, 9:39 pm

    Very cute dress!

    I am another Target lover.

  • skinnyrunner February 13, 2009, 10:36 pm

those shot blockers are my fav thing to eat while running. they taste like candy and are easy to swallow!

  • Nancy February 14, 2009, 8:15 am

    Caitlin-

Regarding the cliff shot blocks- what distance do you think is long enough to consider taking them mid-way through? Also, if you didn’t take them do you really think it would be much of a difference?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point February 14, 2009, 8:35 am

Nancy – I usually take shot bloks during a run if i’m going over 8 miles or so. In my personal opinion, it’s necessary (for me). It’s hard to mantain maximum speed and efficiency when you are creating a 800+ calorie deficit. i also once read an article that said your body “anticipates” the negative calories you are creating and will subconsciously force you to slow down if you don’t refuel (also applies to not drinking enough water).

  • Heather February 14, 2009, 2:03 pm

Cute dress! If I could purchase a wardrobe from any one store without regard to price, it would be anthropologie. That is currently not an option, so I pick Target.
