This morning, my rumbling tummy was a positive sign that last night’s workout was effective! I love how cardio jump-starts my metabolism.

I snacked on a raw ball from Abbie to keep myself from chewing off my arm.

CIMG3953

Much more delicious than arm.

Lunch was equally satisfying, with lots to crunch and munch on.

CIMG3954

I made a simple English Muffin sammie with a fried egg and a slice of ham.

CIMG3956

Plus a basket of celery and carrots.

CIMG3957

Dessert was a fruit strip from TJs:

I really like the New American Dream foundation…I think we have to start treating organic farming as part of a new america and make it something that everyone desires to achieve!

I like the sound of Riverkeepers. It’s so important to keep our rivers in good shape.

  • Janie April 15, 2009, 9:07 am

I really like the Community Alliances of Independant Agriculture.(CAIA) I think it’s very important to educate people on community farming. My uncle is actually working on his own organic farm now and it’s been fascinating seeing all the steps come together. I love Stonyfield yogurt!

Oh, that sammie looks so delish – you’re making me hungry 🙂

  • Amanda April 15, 2009, 9:10 am

PCC Farm Land Fund because I believe that land is what we need to be most conservative with. I hate seeing farms being bought by big companies and having them developed. I love land and open space and we are quickly running out of it!

  • Rose April 15, 2009, 9:11 am

National Park Foundation. Not only because it’s in DC (where I live!) but because I use and have used so many National Parks. They’ve brought such joy to me and others.

  • Julie April 15, 2009, 9:12 am

i actually took part in the biodiversity project which was a 2007 stoneyfield recipient so that is my personal favorite!

The giveaway looks great as well as the sammies, yum 🙂

  • redheadedjournal April 15, 2009, 9:13 am

    Yay for crunch!

  • Allison R. April 15, 2009, 9:15 am

I really like the Biodiversity Project from Madison, WI. I not only go to UW-Madison, but think it’s so important to help protect and conserve resources of North America!

Nothing is more important than educating people how to live a healthy life so they may pass those same teachings on to others–“Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture (CAIA), Helena, MT – to help people create food and farming systems that support a healthy environment, society, and economy.” is truly an amazing gift to an area that might otherwise not have such opportunities! Pay it forward!!

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! April 15, 2009, 9:18 am

I like Live Earth because we often forget about climate crisis and it is so important for our children! 🙂

  • Sally April 15, 2009, 9:21 am

The organization that means the most to be has to be the CAIA. We as a nation have forgotten that food doesn’t come from grocery stores, it comes from farms! Agriculture is such an integral yet overlooked part of our lives and its time we took responsibility for our food sources and our environment.

    Thanks, great blog!

I vote for: Community Alliances of Independant Agriculture!

    Thanks 🙂

I looooooooooove Stoneyfield. My bro is best friends with Gary’s son! they went to Bowdoin together. Also if anyone is ever in Maine– check out their cafe/restaurant– O’Naturals! amazing!

  • ashley (sweetandnatural) April 15, 2009, 9:22 am

They support a lot of great initiatives! The two that stood out to me were Chef’s Collaborative (promote eating organic food, protecting the environment, and supporting family farmers and food growers) and Earth University (4-year, private, nonprofit school in Costa Rica, that recruits students from poor, rural areas of the tropics, where sustainable agriculture is a challenge – the goal is to graduate with the skills they need to return to their homes to make lasting change). Very cool!

  • Michelle April 15, 2009, 9:27 am

I like the National Park Foundation–since I spend a couple of weeks every summer hiking through different National Parks! I love them–especially out west!

  • Jess April 15, 2009, 9:29 am

There are three: Climate Counts, Focus the Nation, and Green House Network. Climate change is such an important issue – and one that is going to disproportionately affect third world countries. We all need to start working for a solution now!

  • itsawrapteacher April 15, 2009, 9:33 am

I think we should pay more attention to global warming and recycling!

  • s_davy34 April 15, 2009, 9:35 am

I think I would choose Focus the Nation. Simply because any foundation that reaches out to every community makes quite an impact.

  • sweetandfit April 15, 2009, 9:36 am

I really like the Community Alliances of Interdependent AgriCulture (CAIA) because its helping to rebuild our economy by reaching out to people and giving them the assistance they need to create farms – seems like common sense to me! don’t know why there arent more programs like this.

  • Anonymous April 15, 2009, 9:45 am

I love the Biodiversity Project ideas- Thanks for introducing me to the other aspects of the company that I had no idea about. I thought it was nice enough of them to make delicious yogurt 🙂

I like the New American Dream. Not only is it’s headquarters right in my backyard, it seems like they hit a lot of different areas as far as the environment and earth are concerned. Great contest!

  • runningwithin April 15, 2009, 9:51 am

I really like Earth University and University of New Hampshire Organic Dairy, I think it’s so imporatant to support farming and educate people and the more organic farming we can bring to America the better!

  • Whitney April 15, 2009, 9:58 am

    I like them all!

  • Bing April 15, 2009, 9:58 am

The Edible Schoolyard is a great program. Kids tend to like fruits & veggies if they help grow them, plus they taste better when freshly picked.

  • Danielle J April 15, 2009, 9:58 am

I really like the idea of the Organic Center for Education and Promotion. The internet is filled with so much junk that sometimes its hard to separate fact from fiction. In providing credible, scientific information about the benefit of organic food, they are helping people make healthier choices.

  • coley April 15, 2009, 10:00 am

The Chef’s Collaborative stood out to me. I am in school studying dietetics, so eating well is very important to me, and supporting family farmers is a great way to eliminate polution while encouraging individuals to eat locally grown produce. I am also passionate about cooking, and love the idea of partnering with restaurants and chefs to support such a great cause!

  • Mariel April 15, 2009, 10:00 am

National Wildlife Federation–I have a soft spot for animals 🙂 Thanks for the great giveaway!

    marielgross@gmail.com

I like the idea behind the CAIA. Educating people about farming and how they provide us with healthy foods is very important.

  • Brandi April 15, 2009, 10:06 am

That’s awesome that Stonyfield does that. I love that they supported the American Hiking Society. Hiking is a huge part of our life here, and I couldn’t imagine if the trails were not taken care of and kept up for future generations.

  • Julie April 15, 2009, 10:06 am

The National Wildlife Federation and the National Park Foundation. They kind of go hand in hand! I am wildly passionate about protecting our wildlife and any animal. I also love hiking and camping – going to state parks and exploring is one of my favorite activities! Wonderful giveaway and blog!

  • Carrie H April 15, 2009, 10:08 am

Okay, I have to say … I’d pick the Clearwater Music Festival! I’ve heard a lot about it on NPR and I’ve always wanted to go. I never knew it was a festival designed to help a good cause!

I really like the riverkeepers because I’m from NY and I’m concerned about keeping rivers and beaches clean, especially a place like NYC which strains the environment so much!

    kpalasek@student.umass.edu

  • MoFish April 15, 2009, 10:14 am

I’d pick Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture (CAIA), because I believe that getting America back its farming roots would be great for our economy, our overall health, and our status on the globe.

  • Tracey April 15, 2009, 10:15 am

I’m an animal lover, so their Ecology Fund wins my heart. I believe we have to protect the wilderness and animal habitats to preserve these precious creatures. Thanks for such a wonderful contest!

  • tfh April 15, 2009, 10:16 am

How generous! I adore Stonyfield Farm. I always look on their site for recipes but wasn’t aware they have a cookbook! Mmm.

All these recipients look great. I’m a big supporter of New American Dream!

  • Abby April 15, 2009, 10:17 am

What a fun giveaway, and a fantastic company!

I really like the Live Earth program, because it seems like this sort of collaborative action is exactly what we need to make real change in terms of sustainability.

  • Amanda April 15, 2009, 10:17 am

I like the national park foundation because in the summer i go to new hampshire on their hiking trails and it is not only a great source of exercise but the scenery is amazing so it is important to maintain all our parks!

  • Jessica April 15, 2009, 10:18 am

Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture. This organization brings people together and reminds us that eating local is so important for our health, for community relationships and overall well being.

  • greenbean April 15, 2009, 10:20 am

I’m all about the Community Alliances of Independant Agriculture. I like that they teach people about growing food and actually connect them to the food source. We are so disconnected and don’t know where our food comes from. This sounds like an awesome organization.

  • LisaM April 15, 2009, 10:21 am

I would have to say the lunch-bag! Bringing your lunch is a great way to save money and eat healthy, homemade food. Using a re-usable lunch bag protects the environment as well!
    Lisa

  • seesaraheat April 15, 2009, 10:22 am

I really like the “Edible Schoolyard” project from 2004. Kids really do need to learn how to eat properly and how cool is it that they can actually grow the food themselves and see where it comes from? Great contest girl!

  • Sarah April 15, 2009, 10:24 am

I think that the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden is a worthy cause – educating people on the need of farming & gardening!

  • Liza April 15, 2009, 10:24 am

This is a really neat giveaway. I support Rock the Earth! This organization is a good example of a famous person (Jack Johnson) using his influence to do some good. Now I have another reason to buy Stonyfield (other than the fact that they make amazing yogurt)!

    lizafavaro@yahoo.com

  • Danielle April 15, 2009, 10:31 am

I think the most important one to me is the National Wildlife Federation, animals are so helpless when it comes to what humans do to their habitats, I think it’s so important to restore their habitats. What a great non-profit to help out!

  • Tami April 15, 2009, 10:33 am

i just want them to fix their factory so we can go on a tour again. i live about an hour from the factory and since they hit it big, they have had to add on to the factory so many times they keep delaying the tour openings

  • Cookie April 15, 2009, 10:33 am

The National Park Foundation. Growing up I spent a lot of times walking around the woods with my parents and I think that’s why I have a healthy outlook and care for the planet today. It’s important to keep that positive reinforcement around.

    liz.christine.nelson@gmail.com

  • Juli D April 15, 2009, 10:33 am

I pick CAIA – the rest seem focused on Organics and Climate Change (the first unneccessary and the second yet to be proven). This organization seems to focus on helping people who are genuinely in need get food and make their lives better.

  • healthy ashley April 15, 2009, 10:38 am

This is fantastic. I like the PCC Farm Land Fund.

  • Fancy April 15, 2009, 10:44 am

Riverkeepers is fantastic. It’s so important to preserve our natural resources and this is a great way to help.

If I win, I will email you my email address 🙂

  • Missy April 15, 2009, 10:45 am

I really like the Healthy Food, Healthy Communities. It can be hard for low income families to eat organic since the costs can be higher and the foundation helps financially and gives fruits and vegetables to the colleges.

  • Meghann April 15, 2009, 10:47 am

Yay for StoneyField Contests!! I love their Pikos!

I really like the New American Dream foundation, that sounds like a cauase where you they actually teach the horse to drink (instead of just leading it to water)

  • Ellen April 15, 2009, 11:04 am

this is way cool! so many of these organizations are ones that i wish i could support (but i’m in college, so that’s not happening.) i have to say the PCC farmland trust is my favorite, because it’s local to seattle and because of its ideology.

  • MaryBe April 15, 2009, 11:12 am

National Parks. I camp often, and never at privately owned camp grounds. National Parks are great places for camping

  • Meg April 15, 2009, 11:14 am

Definitely Chef's Collaborative – I think organic farming should become the standard of agriculture in the United States, and all organic farmers deserve to be recognized as a huge benefit to healthy bodies and a healthy environment overall. Hooray for organic farmers!

national parks foundation! whats better than spending the day outside enjoying nature?

  • Quinn April 15, 2009, 11:29 am

Definitely the Organic Center for Education and Promotion. It helps educate consumers, doctors, government agencies about some of the foods we most enjoy!

  • Brooks April 15, 2009, 11:35 am

I choose the National Outdoor Leadership School because I think more people need to get in touch with the wilderness and learn how to appreciate, respect and embrace it.

  • Becci April 15, 2009, 11:36 am

I like the idea of The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, VA. I definately think that we need to set aside areas for enjoyment and not focus on urban growth!

  • katecooks April 15, 2009, 11:41 am

definitely riverkeepers, from past recipients. I think that most of our planet is water AND it’s the #1 thing required for life, so making efforts to keep that water clean and healthy is absolutely imperative. thanks for hosting this giveaway and having us all think about celebrating earth day!!

  • Melissa (fitnessnyc) April 15, 2009, 11:43 am

    National Wildlife Federation,

I would love to test out some of the recipes from the goodiebag cookbook

  • Amisha April 15, 2009, 11:47 am

I feel most passionate about the edible schoolyard project. I think a project that teaches kids about supporting the environment and themselves through organic food and sustainable farming is amazing. They are the most malleable at that age! Teach them while they still have the open minds and hears. Thanks.

  • TinaGirl April 15, 2009, 11:48 am

This is wonderful! I love stonyfield farm’s yogurt and now I love them even more knowing how enviromentally consience they are. This is a wonderfully generous bunch of goodies. I’m lovin’ it.

  • Amelia (AC/DC: Highways to Health) April 15, 2009, 11:54 am

What a great contest! I like the Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture that helps people create food and farming systems. I think it’s a teach a man to fish scenario. If you can teach people how to get involved with the process of how their food is created, then they will have more respect for it and hopefully learn to eat better.

  • Christy April 15, 2009, 12:00 pm

I love the New American Dream because they have well-rounded goals and hopefully will help people become more accountable for their actions.

  • VCK April 15, 2009, 1:26 pm

The Chefs’ Collaborative is pretty cool–there is a lot of that around where I live without an organization to put it all together. Portland is very focused on eating locally and there are many Portland chefs who incorporate this into their menus.

  • Maria Ann April 15, 2009, 1:27 pm

I like the edible schoolyard! We really need to focus on educating the youth! Plus, any school lunch I had was gross and this sounds like a great alternative!

    Maria09@umd.edu

  • Amy Pacheco April 15, 2009, 1:39 pm

I think that ALL of the recipients listed are deserving but if I had to pick one–it would be the National Park Foundation. I think that with everything that goes on in the world and our lives–We need to take care of the “beautiful” places that bring each one of us joy 🙂

  • Katie April 15, 2009, 1:42 pm

I have a soft spot for PCC Farmland Trust. I shop there sometimes, and I’m glad to know they’ve helped save several nearby farms! I have been appriciating FRESH produce more and more lately, and knowing it’s coming from a earby source and not hauled from somewhere across the US is great!

  • Bethina April 15, 2009, 1:42 pm

I like the sounds of The New
    American Dream foundation.
Not only does the title alone
    sound so hopeful for America-but
the actual act behind it rocks!

    That sammie looks quite delish.
    I love breakfast sandwiches.

The organization that I think is extremely important and a great organization to contribute to is the National Parks Foundation. I lived for a few years in Utah and had the pleasure of visiting some of the beautiful places both there and in the surrounding states. I think parks are a very important resource for the country and one that we need to sustain.

That’s tough but I’d say Live Earth in Burbank, CA. I think it’s important to get people motivated to help our future.

  • april April 15, 2009, 2:31 pm

I like the “edible schoolyard” a lot! I’m a nurse and see so many kids that eat poorly. It should be a priority to make sure our children are eating proper nutrition! My email is casperlover25@aol.com

  • *One Step at a Time* April 15, 2009, 2:33 pm

I really like how they help the Northeast Organic Farming Association, because I try to buy a lot of locally grown products and live in the Northeast. There are a lot of little farmer’s markets around my small college town as well. I love New England! 🙂

  • Holly April 15, 2009, 2:34 pm

I think New American Dream looks like a great organization, especially this part: “The Center for a New American Dream is dedicated to helping support and nurture an American dream that upholds the spirit of the traditional dream—but with a new emphasis on sustainability and a celebration of non-material values. We envision a society that values not just “more” but more of what matters.”

  • Lisa D. April 15, 2009, 2:59 pm

i think that Riverkeepers in Tarrytown is a great organization. They help keep the hudson river clean, which is right near where I grew up and runs almost the whole length(north to south) of NY state!

  • Mags April 15, 2009, 3:20 pm

All of these were great. The 2006 ‘Healthy Food, Healthy Communities’ recipient sounded really cool, providing fruits and veggies to low-income families :).

I never win these things, but I keep entering – just in case!

  • Red Head, Yellow Dog April 15, 2009, 4:10 pm

I would say the national park foundation. I think it’s so important for us to preserve all the beauty and green space in our country. Something’s value cannot be measured in dollars!!!

  • Kate April 15, 2009, 4:21 pm

I'd also pick the PCC Farm Land Fund. Now that I live in a more farmed area (Hello, Iowa!) I have a much greater appreciation for organic farming & farming in general. I love that Stonyfield Farm gives back!

  • Anne April 15, 2009, 4:26 pm

Wow, good for Stonyfield! All of those organizations are great, but I really like New American Dream. I think it’s great how they’re working to help people make reasonable yet effective changes in their everyday lives.

  • Skye April 15, 2009, 4:28 pm

The New American Dream is a fantastic organization…each person can learn to be aware of consumption and help to protect our communities!

  • A April 15, 2009, 4:31 pm

I love all the ideas, but New American Dream is my fave!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 15, 2009, 4:42 pm

ashley – well, that’s a good question! i don’t think i began to take kristien seriously until about 1.5 year into our relationship, when we were 21 or so. that’s when i knew i was ready to move in, but i don’t think i was sure about marriage until we had lived together for a few months. some people say they just “know” but im a really practical person and there are a lot of things that need to happen for a marriage to work. for example, kristien had to prove to be that he was responsible and hardworking, good with money, cared about my feelings, and stuck with me through the bad times. i also needed to see he would be a good dad and whatnot. love isn’t enough! it sure helps, though. 🙂

  • Laura in Pgh April 15, 2009, 5:14 pm

I choose the National Parks Foundation, as i believe it is important to keep our parks maintained and beautiful. I love hiking and have been to many national parks out west.
    tigrlil79@aol.com

  • Marisa April 15, 2009, 5:16 pm

I love when big companies give back!! (and i love oikos =)) I really like the Nature Conservancy – we need to conserve and protect undeveloped areas, especially those near bigger cities!!

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) April 15, 2009, 5:30 pm

I made those raw donut holes today! THEY ARE SO TASTY!

  • Anonymous April 15, 2009, 5:30 pm

Wow, what a generous giveaway. I definitely like the Chef’s Collaborative (promote eating organic food, protecting the environment, and supporting family farmers and food growers) because I am in Culinary School and now studying Culinary Nutrition and at our school we get produce from the local farmers a lot. I think this is a great thing for people to start being aware of!

  • LT April 15, 2009, 5:31 pm

WOw, I like this contest because I had no idea Stonyfield contributed so much to so many worthy causes! I’m 100% going to buy their yogurt now. It’s worth it. Ummmm onto their recipients, I am interested in the Edible Schoolyard. We need to start the education early!

  • katie m April 15, 2009, 5:32 pm

There are so many great organizations listed, but the National Park Foundation is the one that I am most interested in supporting. Growing up, I spent many vacations camping in and exploring National Parks such as Joshua Tree, Sequoia, Zion, and more…The memories that I have from these trips are priceless, and I learned a ton about myself as I conquered challenging hikes and unpredictable weather conditions. I want future generations to be able to experience such natural wonders.

  • Susan April 15, 2009, 5:51 pm

Stonyfield is so awesome! I love the New American Dream program in Takoma Park, MD. Not only are they teaching people how to protect our environment, they’re teaching people how to take responsibility for their actions and lead healthy lives!

  • Lauren April 15, 2009, 6:03 pm

I would say the National Park Foundation. National Parks are becoming way to under-rated for all of their amazing attributes; to the environment, the economy, and the population at large.

  • Simple and Divine April 15, 2009, 6:07 pm

  • almosthealthychris April 15, 2009, 6:26 pm

I really like Community Alliances of Independant Agriculture.(CAIA). I think that educating people is the first step in actually creating a change on our planet. The fact that they teach commuities to use natural resources and organic farming is the first step in impacting generations to come to be informed and empowered to mae better eating choices and to protect the only planet we’ve got. Oh and I love Stonyfield.

As a teacher, The Edible Schoolyard is an organization I believe in. I see first hand what effect healthy eating has on children. My students that come to school with a healthy breakfast in their stomachs are ready to learn and face the day.

  • Annie April 15, 2009, 6:37 pm

I really like the New American Dream foundation, because I dont feel like people are really educated as well as they could/should be about eating organically and for the environment, and it is killing our nation and environment.

    annie31873@gmail.com

  • Ashley & Bo April 15, 2009, 6:42 pm

I really like the New American Dream project!! If more people started growing things organically maybe the costs would decline. Your package is going out tomorrow!! 🙂

  • beckpryor April 15, 2009, 6:47 pm

I like the National Outdoor Leadership School – I think wilderness skills are super important and more people should learn about them.

  • Jessica April 15, 2009, 6:59 pm

My name is Jessica. I feel most passionate about the Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture. I work for a local family who own their own farm and sell their homegrown produce. Their business becomes more successfull every year and has grown lately as people have begun to buy locally grown food more and more. It is so much more fresh and so good for you. You can FEEL how good it is for you when you eat it! It is so important to buy local and support your local famers. And, you know exactly where your food comes from!!!

    My e-mail is cutiekitty1788@gmail.com

  • Erin April 15, 2009, 7:11 pm

Being from Washington, DC, I have such an admiration for the National Park Foundation. Even in the middle of the city, there are green spaces to run and ride bikes, and you never feel trapped among buildings. America’s National Parks are our most precious natural resources — they must be protected at all costs.

I want national parks to be around when I have children to create the same memories with them that I have with MY parents.

    erin.ruberry@gmail.com

  • Taylor K. April 15, 2009, 7:17 pm

I would say the New American Dream recipient would be my favorite of them all. I am all for learning about new ways to protect the environment and all of the little things I can do that really add up.

  • Jennifer April 15, 2009, 7:22 pm

The Edible Schoolyard… so cool! I’m a pediatrician, so I love anything that teaches kids to be well informed about their food and gets them excited about taking more concern for their health 🙂

  • Claire April 15, 2009, 7:29 pm

I like the community alliances of interdependent agriculture. What better way to improve our country’s nutrition (and help with the obesity epidemic) in hard economic times than to teach people to grow their own food and share that through the community?! Great idea.

  • Becca H April 15, 2009, 7:50 pm

I like that the help MASSBIKE. I think biking of walking more places is a great way to help the environment and stay in shape.

  • JW April 15, 2009, 7:58 pm

I like the New American Dream foundation. It not only promotes the protection of the enviornment but also social justice.

  • Anonymous April 15, 2009, 9:11 pm

    I love the vanilla yogurt.

  • Amie April 16, 2009, 12:24 am

I feel strongly about the Pesticide Action Network North America. For one, it is close to where I live so I can get involved (San Francisco, CA). Also, I think ecologically sound alternatives to pesticides is VERY important. I want to feel good about what I am putting in my body and how it is impacting the planet.

  • Beth April 16, 2009, 3:13 am

While I’m totally on board with all of the groups that support community agriculture, I’m going to vote for the Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute. Without a collaboration between experts in many different fields, I don’t think we have a chance of properly addressing the environmental problems facing us. I love that they bring people together from many different disciplines to share their knowledge towards such an important common goal.

  • sloank April 16, 2009, 4:11 am

I love the Northeast Organic Farming Association. As someone who lives in the northeast, I feel it is so important to promote organic food and help those farmers that try to make our food and environment a better place!

  • Carmen D. April 16, 2009, 4:30 am

Ooh the University of Vermont Center for integrating community and college expertise. I love when colleges share their resources with the community and vice-versa. Definitely a win-win. Stonyfield is so remarkable to give away such a large amount of money yearly. They ROCK!

  • Aimee April 16, 2009, 4:35 am

I like that they have donated to Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture (CAIA), because I think eating locally is really important.

I would love this package because I love Stonyfield’s products!

  • Ally April 16, 2009, 5:27 am

CAIA – I’m all about supporting local farmers! Thanks for the giveaway.

Mount Washington Observatory–sounds like an interesting place to live and work….

  • ttfn300 April 16, 2009, 5:41 am

i’ve been reading about farming and whatnot, so i’m gonna say those ones (Sustainable Harvest International, NE Organic Farming Association, CAIA, and a few others)

but this was neat, thanks for opening my eyes!

  • Sarah April 16, 2009, 5:50 am

I’m glad they give to the National Park Foundation. When I was clicking around that website, I saw that they try to strengthen the ties between American people and their national parks. One of their projects is helping spotlight points of particular interest to African Americans in national parks. I think this is great because so much of our “national history” ignores African Americans, even though they were a very prominent part of our history and our growth as a nation. I also have fond memories of going to national parks as a child.

  • Marissa April 16, 2009, 6:03 am

National Park Foundation–living in DC I run around and through the national parks in this area all the time…supporting those parks is important to me as national parks provide a sanctuary in an urban area.

River Keepers. I live near a polluted river and I have seen what kind of damage can be done to the local eco system 🙁

  • Keegan April 16, 2009, 6:11 am

There are three that I actually am most passionate about. NOLS is key for teaching strong environmental leaders for those that regularly “use the outdoors”. Additionally, the national park service is one of the best parts of our government in my mind, as I am an avid hiker. The third is the NH Audubon society. I have benefited many times growing up from their work, as I was born and bred in NH (not far from Stoneyfield). Such an incredible company. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  • Rae April 16, 2009, 6:47 am

I would have to say the community food group in Montana…I like the idea of spreading the word about environmental friendliness, community togetherness and healthy eating all in one!!

    Great contest!

I like the Rock The Earth idea. I think that targets the youth of America, and I think that is what the whole sustainability and green movement depends on. It is such an important topic right now and I believe it is in the hands of the young people who will grow up reading about it, and studying about it and (hopefully) DOING something about it.

I have to say, I’m not familiar with most of those charities, but I’m impressed that they do so much work with organizations right in my backyard. I saw several charities in SF, Santa Cruz and other Bay Area communities which makes me realize Stonyfield really jives with the eco-friendly attitudes of Bay Area residents!

  • simplesavvy April 16, 2009, 7:44 am

I like that they support the UNH Organic Dairy program. I went to college in NH, and everyone knew about the UNH Dairy. I’m glad they teach agricultural studies at a university — particularly something organic.

  • Melissa Reddington April 16, 2009, 7:57 am

I really like the Healthy Food Healthy Community because I think it is so hard for people of low income communities to eat healthy because oftentimes the cheapest food is the unhealthiest.

    Great giveaway! =)

  • sarah April 16, 2009, 8:11 am

The Edible Schoolyard sounds like a fantastic cause. It’s so important to teach children the value of eating healthy and eating organically. Plus children need to learn how easy and rewarding planting one’s food can be.

  • Laurie April 16, 2009, 8:28 am

I really like Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden because I think that some of the methods of farming are so dangerous to the environment and the food that is produced, so their initiative to encourage environmentally friendly farming is a great one!

    graves.laurie@gmail.com

  • Christina April 16, 2009, 9:09 am

I like CommunityFood because I feel that change can be made easily if a community is involved. If communities all over the world got involved, it would make a big difference.

  • sals April 16, 2009, 9:33 am

Looks like Stonyfield is doing a lot of great things! I was especially happy to read about the scholarship fund for Earth University—allowing students from poor, rural areas of Costa Rica to learn about sustainable agriculture sounds like an amazing program!

  • Anonymous April 16, 2009, 9:50 am

I really like the New Hampshire Audobon because it’s local and I think it’s really important that we remain responsible for protecting wildlife and their habitats.

National Wildlife Federation! Global warming is a real thing. That’s so great that they give back. So many great foundations!!

  • Azure April 16, 2009, 10:16 am

Northeast Organic Farming Association. Healthy food, organic farming practices, and a cleaner environment—sounds like a pretty great deal!

  • Kristin April 16, 2009, 10:39 am

Live Earth would be my pick. I think the world needs to stand up today to take control of the growing climate crisis!

  • KK @ Running Through Life April 16, 2009, 11:06 am

I am intrigued by he Community Alliances of Independent Agriculture. I think more people need to be educated about the food they eat and where it comes from!

  • Christine April 16, 2009, 11:20 am

I really like New American Dream. It’s nice to think that maybe there is still hope for American farmers, and is exciting that their future may lie in organics!

  • Julia April 16, 2009, 2:15 pm

I like that they helped out the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day. I like to go hiking a LOT where I live (in Santa Barbara CA) because its so beautiful. I would like to contribute to keeping it that way too! Awesome giveaway!

  • leslie April 16, 2009, 3:56 pm

LiveEarth would be my pick. Climate change is the number one problem that we have to face sooner rather than later. It’s great that Stoneyfield is drawing attention to so many great organizations!

  • Pam April 16, 2009, 5:20 pm

I am definitely most interested in the Friends of USCS Farm and Garden. I am very interested in local eating and farming. I’m reading a book called Plenty which is basically a memoir of a couple who ate locally (within 100 miles) of their home for an entire year. Thanks much!

  • Anonymous April 16, 2009, 5:46 pm

The organization that stood out the most to me was the Organic Center for Education and Promotion located in Washington DC. When I think of DC, organic food or food in general does not come to mind. Politics is what I think of and if we could educate the leaders of the country on the benifits of going organic then possibly they could fund the organic farmers.
